Position Summary:
The Senior Director and Controller will be a key leader in the finance department and is responsible for the oversight of the monthly close, reporting, operating performance management, compliance of the obligated group, corporate office, affordable housing and home and community-based service entities. Additionally, this role is responsible for the oversight of revenue cycle management. This position must ensure compliance is maintained with generally accepted accounting principles and with all laws and regulations. This position reports to the Chief Financial Officer.
Essential Responsibilities:
Oversight of Monthly Close and Reporting
- Oversee accurate close within prescribed timelines
- Prepare obligated group and consolidated financial reporting packages
- Participate in certain quarterly governance meetings
- Maintain debt covenant calculations and reporting to bondholders and banks
Operating Plan and Operating Performance Management
- In partnership with others, participate in the annual operating budget process
- Analyze budget to actual results
- Partner with others to meet operational targets
- Build and maintain strong relations and collaborate with operating leaders to ensure effective communication and alignment of financial goals.
Revenue Cycle Oversight
- In conjunction with the revenue cycle manager, develop goals and a path for meeting goals
- Oversee the revenue cycle manager; ensuring that billing is completed accurately, revenue is being collected, compliance is maintained
- Approve benevolent care applications
Audits and Compliance
- Responsible for the successful completion of the annual audit and cost report audits
- Responsible for the filing of all taxes, including the annual Form 990
- Ensure compliance with laws and regulations
- Identify and assess financial risks and opportunities, providing recommendations for safeguards and / or strategies
Leadership and Training
- Supervise, train, mentor, coach and support growth of staff
- Manage individual and team performance
- Clearly, concisely and respectfully set and communicate expectations
- Implement and drive a culture of continuous improvement
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the finance department to enhance efficiency and effectiveness
- Stay abreast of industry trends, best practices, and changes in financial regulations.
Customer Service
- Demonstrate superior customer service
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA (Certified Public Accountant) is strongly preferred. Three (3) years in a supervisory and / or leadership experience is required.
- Six (6) or more years of progressive accounting and finance experience.
- Senior living and/or public accounting experience strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of financial management principles, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements.
- This position has a start date of end of January 2024
