Engineering Group Manager - Tire and Wheel Systems

Company Vehicle: Upon successful completion of a motor vehicle report review, you will be eligible to participate in a company vehicle evaluation program, through which you will be assigned a General Motors vehicle to drive and evaluate. Note: program participants are required to purchase/lease a qualifying GM vehicle every four years unless one of a limited number of exceptions applies.
The Role
The EGM - Tire-Wheel Systems leads a team of engineers and technical specialists responsible for design and hardware release of Tires, Wheels, Wheel Trim, and Chassis Tools. You will provide technical and people leadership to ensure robust design, integration, and execution that meets safety, quality, timing, and cost targets. This role operates with a high degree of autonomy in a dynamic, cross-functional environment and plays a key role in shaping GM's Tire-Wheel Systems strategies across multiple architectures.
What You'll Do (Responsibilities)

Lead the Tire-Wheel Systems team responsible for ensuring on-time, high-quality engineering releases.

Provide direction on design, integration, and validation, resolving complex issues and trade-offs.

Oversee engineering release deliverables including the Statement of Requirements, criteria, math data, drawings, vehicle BOM, DFMEAs, Engineering Source Approval, and change management.

Partner with Program Teams, Manufacturing, Quality, and suppliers to ensure effective system integration, plant readiness, and launch execution.

Collaborate with the GM Creative Design to release wheels that balance styling and engineering needs.

Drive issue identification and root cause resolution for development, launch, and field concerns.

Develop and manage plans, priorities, and resource allocation for your team to meet program milestones and functional objectives.

Mentor, coach, and develop team members, leading staffing, performance management, and career development activities.

Promote a culture of collaboration, inclusion, and continuous improvement.

Regularly communicate status, risks, and recommendations to leadership and cross-functional partners, exercising sound judgment and independent decision-making.
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field.

8+ years of automotive engineering experience, with meaningful exposure to Tire-Wheel Systems, Chassis Systems, or a related field.

Proven experience with engineering release, vehicle integration, and validation within a structured vehicle development process (e.g., GVDP or equivalent).

Demonstrated people leadership experience, including leading engineers, setting direction, and driving accountability for results.

Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, including experience with root cause analysis and corrective actions.

Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence cross-functional partners and present to leadership.

Ability to manage ambiguity, prioritize effectively, and work independently with minimal supervision.
What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):

Master's Degree in Engineering, Engineering Management, or an MBA with a technical focus.

Direct design/release experience in Tire-Wheel Systems.

Experience supporting multiple global vehicle architectures and collaborating closely with manufacturing plants and suppliers.

Familiarity with GM-specific processes, tools, and standards (e.g., GVDP, engineering release systems, GMWs).

Demonstrated success in building and developing high-performing teams in a technical environment.

Experience using data, analytics, or digital tools to enhance engineering efficiency and quality.
