Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Job Summary
A mission-driven faith-based organization is seeking a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to provide executive-level financial leadership and oversight across a complex multi-entity structure. This role is responsible for ensuring strong financial stewardship, compliance, and long-term sustainability across affiliated organizations and ministries. The CFO serves as a key advisor to senior leadership and governing boards, providing clear, accurate financial insight to support both operational decision-making and long-range strategic planning. The role also holds primary responsibility for investment oversight, audit and risk management, financial reporting, and policy development.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer, representing the organization in fiduciary and financial matters and participating in executive leadership and governance committees
- Oversee preparation and delivery of accurate, timely financial reporting for leadership teams and governing boards, ensuring clarity for both financial and non-financial audiences
- Provide financial analysis and strategic insight to support operational planning and long-term organizational decision-making
- Oversee investment portfolios, endowment funds, and financial assets, including performance monitoring, policy development, and management of external financial relationships
- Lead, manage, and develop finance and administrative staff, ensuring accountability, professional growth, and operational effectiveness
- Develop, implement, and maintain financial policies, internal controls, and compliance systems to meet legal, regulatory, and fiduciary requirements
- Oversee audit processes and coordinate resolution of findings in collaboration with leadership and governance committees
- Manage relationships with external vendors, financial institutions, and contracted service providers, including oversight of accounting services for affiliated entities
- Execute contracts and agreements within designated authority and provide additional support to executive leadership as needed
Additional Details
- Location: Grand Rapids, MI
- Compensation: $130k-$150k/YR., based on experience
- Schedule: Full-time
- Travel: Approximately 15–20 days of travel annually
Qualifications
Required
- Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 10+ years of senior-level financial leadership experience
- Strong strategic financial planning and organizational leadership experience
- Ability to communicate complex financial information clearly to diverse stakeholders
- Demonstrated success managing complex financial systems, teams, and reporting structures
- Commitment to the mission and values of a faith-based organization
Preferred
- CPA, CMA, or equivalent professional accounting designation
