Summary : The Controller is responsible for overseeing all financial operations of the cooperative, including accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, and compliance. This role ensures accurate and timely financial data, supports decision-making, and works to optimize financial performance while maintaining compliance with relevant regulations and industry standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: ( Other duties may be assigned.)
Oversee daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger.
Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, reports, and forecasts.
Ensure compliance with accounting principles, regulatory requirements, and cooperative policies.
Develop and manage annual budgets and monitor financial performance.
Provide analysis of financial performance, identifying trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
Coordinate and oversee the preparation of tax filings and audits.
Manage cash flow, and financial planning processes.
Work closely with other departments to ensure financial data is accurate and accessible.
Support the CFO in financial decision-making and strategic planning.
Develop and implement internal controls to safeguard assets and prevent fraud.
Lead and develop the accounting team, providing training and mentorship.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry regulations, accounting standards, and best practices.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position will supervise the accounting team, including staff responsible for accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll.
Education and/or Experience
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA or equivalent certification preferred.
Significant experience in accounting or financial management, with experience in the utility or cooperative sectors preferred.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Valid CPA license (preferred but not required).
Physical Demands
· Prolonged periods of sitting and working on a computer.
· Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds.
· Regularly required to talk, hear, and use hands and fingers.
· Occasional standing, walking, reaching, and stooping.
· Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
· Office environment with controlled temperatures and lighting.
· Occasional exposure to weather conditions when visiting field locations.
· May require travel to various cooperative locations.
· May require evening or weekend work for special projects or events.
· Exposure to standard office equipment such as computers, telephones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
