The Opportunity

Key Responsibilities

• Design, fabricate, repair, and modify precision tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures.
• Operate conventional and CNC machine tools, including lathes, mills, grinders, and EDM machines.
• Interpret complex engineering blueprints, schematics, and CAD models.
• Perform precise measurements and inspections using a variety of metrology instruments.
• Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair tooling malfunctions to minimize production downtime.
• Collaborate with engineering and production teams to optimize tool design and manufacturing processes.
• Select appropriate materials and heat treatments for tool fabrication.

Recommended Qualifications

• Completion of a recognized Tool & Die Maker apprenticeship or equivalent formal training.
• Proven proficiency in operating a wide range of manual and CNC machine tools (e.g., mills, lathes, grinders, EDM).
• Expert ability to read and interpret complex engineering blueprints, schematics, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
• Skilled in using various precision measuring instruments (e.g., micrometers, calipers, gauges, CMMs) to ensure part quality.
• Strong understanding of metallurgy, heat treatment processes, and material properties relevant to tool manufacturing.
• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair complex tooling, dies, jigs, and fixtures.

Bonus Qualifications

• Experience with additive manufacturing (3D printing) for tooling applications.
• Proficiency in advanced CAD/CAM software for complex surface modeling or multi-axis programming.
• Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma certification/experience.
• Demonstrated ability to contribute to tool design improvements or DFM initiatives.
