Position Details
Pinckney Community Schools seeks a dynamic, dedicated, and visionary leader to serve as the Dean of Students at Pathfinder Middle School. Pinckney is in Livingston County, known for its suburban-rural mix and a draw for nature lovers with its parks, lakes, and trails. The ideal candidate will have a passion for fostering student success, supporting teachers, and creating a welcoming environment for students, staff, and families.
Position Overview:
The Dean of Students will be responsible for leading and managing aspects of the school, including academic programming, student achievement, student attendance, school climate, staff development, and community engagement. The Dean will work closely with their building principal, district leadership team, teachers, support staff, parents, and the community to promote the mission and vision of Pinckney Community Schools.
General Responsibilities:
- Oversees student behavior, attendance, and discipline processes while supporting a safe, positive school climate.
- Coordinates student support systems including Section 504 plans, health plans, attendance interventions, and collaboration with counseling and outside agencies.
- Supervises student activities, lunches, school events, safety procedures, and daily building operations.
- Monitors student data and communicates regularly with students, families, staff, and coaches regarding behavioral, attendance, and academic concerns.
- Assists the principal with school leadership, staff support, PBIS initiatives, and implementation of schoolwide expectations and culture-building efforts. Participates in district, building, and county-level leadership and support meetings related to student success, operations, and school improvement.
Qualifications:
- Possession of a Master’s Degree or higher.
- Valid State of Michigan Administrative certification or willingness to enroll in a program to obtain one.
- Relevant experience working to develop systems, processes, and intervention strategies to promote student learning and a positive school climate.
- Ability to interact positively with middle school age students while addressing their academic, social and emotional needs.
- Previous experience working with students in the areas of discipline, behavior support, and peer interactions.
- Effective leadership and communication skills and willingness to work collaboratively with teachers across grade levels to promote student success.
- Ability to develop and maintain appropriate relationships and rapport with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Demonstrated confidential and sound professional judgment.
- Demonstrated proficiency in usage and application of technology, preferably Google Apps for Education.
Preferred:
- Valid Michigan Teaching Certification.
- Previous teaching and/or educational leadership experience at the middle school level.
- Knowledge of Student Information Systems, such as MISTAR. Knowledge of and adherence to federal, state, and local laws regarding student privacy.
