Position Summary

The Structural Steel MIG Welder is responsible for fabricating and welding structural steel components according to blueprints, welding procedures, and project specifications. This position requires proficiency in MIG welding, blueprint reading, fitting, and the safe operation of fabrication equipment to produce high-quality structural steel products for commercial and industrial construction projects.

SCHEDULE M-F 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Perform MIG welding on structural steel components including beams, columns, frames, brackets, and assemblies.
• Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, weld symbols, and fabrication specifications.
• Fit, align, and assemble steel components prior to welding.
• Operate welding equipment, cutting torches, grinders, saws, and other fabrication tools.
• Inspect welds to ensure compliance with quality standards and project requirements.
• Measure, mark, and verify dimensions using tape measures, squares, levels, and precision measuring tools.
• Repair defective welds and perform rework as needed.
• Maintain production schedules while meeting quality and safety standards.
• Safely operate overhead cranes, forklifts, and material handling equipment when required.
• Perform routine maintenance and inspection of welding equipment and tools.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area.
• Follow all company safety procedures, OSHA regulations, and PPE requirements.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2+ years of MIG welding experience in a structural steel or fabrication environment preferred.
• Ability to read blueprints, weld symbols, and fabrication drawings.
• Experience welding carbon steel and structural steel components.
• Knowledge of welding codes, procedures, and quality standards.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong attention to detail and craftsmanship.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds or more as required.
• Ability to stand, bend, kneel, climb, and work in a fabrication shop environment for extended periods.
• Ability to work in varying temperatures and industrial conditions.
• Ability to safely use welding PPE and respiratory protection when required.
