General Description:

Under the supervision of the Director of Residential Services, this position maintains the environment and ongoing care for Christ Child House residents. This position provides supervision and planning of all program activities. The Residential Supervisor's primary responsibility is to ensure the shift to which he/she is assigned is run according to organization processes and procedures. The supervisor is required to ensure that the work of the Youth Specialist staff is trauma informed, therapeutic, effective, and efficient. The supervisor shall promote the mission and goals of Christ Child House as well as carry out the directives of the administrative team to best meet the clinical needs of the children in care. The supervisory level of responsibility requires an excellent attendance record to be effective in this capacity.

Qualifications/requirements:

Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree + 2 years experience in a child caring institution, or 2 years college + 3 years experience in a child caring institution or

High school diploma + 4 years experience in a child caring institution.

Background Checks: All employees will undergo an annual Internet Criminal History Access Toot (ICHAT), sexual abuse registry and Central Registry (CR) check.

Licensure: Valid driver's license; limited moving violations in the past 5 years.

Training for New Hire: Completes 80 hours of training during orientation per Christ Child House Policy. In the first year of employment, must complete 100 hours of training. A minimum of 50 hours of training thereafter.

Physical: This position requires the ability to sit and stand for prolonged periods.

This position requires the ability to stoop, squat, kneel and crouch. This position requires the ability to turn head and torso, bending and flexing arms, wrists and fingers, use of hands to feel objects, reach with hands and arms, and lift 25 pounds. This position requires computer literacy. This position requires the full use of vision to read forms, reports, computer terminals and printouts. This position requires the ability to operate a motor vehicle. This position requires full power of speech and the ability to utilize telephone, computers, and other instruments of communication with clients and employees.

Working conditions: The Christ Child House makes every effort to provide a pleasant building atmosphere. The position may work a major portion of the time in a non-air-conditioned temperature atmosphere. The outdoor time will involve activities with the children and local trips. This position may require some travel via, auto or bus. This position may produce physical and mental stress.

  • Have a thorough knowledge of the mission, polices, procedures, philosophy and techniques instituted by Christ Child House.
  • Have a thorough understanding of the emotional and physical needs of the children and have the ability to ensure all staff are meeting those needs. Redirect staff as needed when dealing with difficult issues/needs of the youth.
  • Demonstrate cultural sensitivity in working with a diverse population.
  • Ability to forge a mutually respectful partnership with persons served and their families in which they are helped to gain the skills and confidence to address any issues and problems they face.
  • Have conviction about the capacity of people to grow and change.

  • Physical ability to participate in physical recreational activities with residents.
  • Physical mobility and capacity to manage a violent child when a physical management is required to assure the safety of that child, the staff, residents, families, and/or others. Always as a last resort and life threatening.
  • Present self as a positive role model at all times.
  • Maintain a cooperative working relationship with other personnel.
  • Ability to set limits and maintain the helping role of the practitioner and to intervene appropriately to meet the needs of the persons served or other family members.

  • Ability to successfully complete all post-offer of employment conditions including drug test and physical examination; free of communicable tuberculosis; able to obtain a central registry clearance.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide effective supervision and leadership to Youth Specialists- including corrective action plans. Utilize progressive discipline methods.
  • Delegates shift responsibilities upon shift commencement to Youth Specialist staff.
  • Conduct performance evaluations on all employees supervised at 6 month initial and annually thereafter.
  • Scheduling of medical appointments and other transportation matters for residents.
  • Assure and maintain the proper level of behavior and safety by scheduling the proper staff to resident ratios (1 to 3).
  • Keep staff updated on program, policy, and procedure changes, and ensure program, policies, and procedures are being followed throughout the building.
  • Facilitate meetings and training for employees.
  • Enforce all Christ Child House rules that apply to the clients in a positive, but firm manner.
  • Approve and sign off on all reports as required, accurately and neatly.
  • Employ all crisis intervention techniques including physical management, when necessary. Maintain CPI certification and maintenance.
  • Maintain First Aid/CPR/AED certification and maintenance.
  • Give authorization for physical management and ensure debriefings are completed by the end of shift.
  • Distribute medications based on client's requirements in accordance with Christ Child House procedures.
  • Responsible for providing first aid to children with minor injuries and caring for sick children.
  • Seek guidance and direction as necessary for performance of duties.
  • Always provide proper notification and advance notice of absence.
  • Abide by and enforce CCH Treatment Standards, CBA, Code of Ethics as well as Licensing & Contract Rules and accreditation standards.
  • Attend extra staff calls and assist in crisis situations. Always used a trauma sensitive approach.
  • Always maintain safety.
  • Notify/inform CCH leadership of issues pertaining to potential abuse/neglect, licensing, or contract violations; any safety issues related to the youth, staff and facility need to be reported to supervision immediately.
  • Ensure any abuse or neglect allegations are immediately reported to Child Protective Services (Mandated Reporting). Notification to supervision is necessary.
  • Responsible for ensuring staff complete point sheets, incident reports, physical management reports, group notes, bed checks and other paperwork required by the end of shift.
  • Responsible for timely maintenance of daily logs, reports, and other required documentation.
  • Responsible for conducting inspection of facility before, during and prior to leaving shift, to assure facility is clean, orderly, and safe.
  • Responsible for ensuring any maintenance issues are immediately addressed.
  • Interview potential candidates for Youth Specialists and Coordinators.
  • Function as a member of the Christ Child House team, for active participation in staff meetings, and for maintaining a courteous, cooperative, and constructive demeanor.
  • Must meet scheduled work shift requirements; attendance will be monitored closely, and appropriate discipline will be applied consistently based on Attendance Policy outlined in the CCH Employee Handbook.
  • Complete any other tasks as assigned by Director of Residential Services and/or Executive Director.

Level of Supervision:

The level of supervision received for a fully qualified Shift Supervisor is limited. Employee is required to act independently on a regular basis and seek guidance on exceptions to pre-established guidelines.
