Chief Financial Officer - Not-for-Profit
ContinuServe is seeking a Nonprofit Chief Financial Officer to bring CFO-level financial leadership to nonprofit organizations navigating complex financial, funding, and operational decisions.
In this client-facing role, you'll partner directly with the executives and boards of the nonprofits you serve, helping each organization strengthen financial strategy, improve visibility into performance, manage risk, and make informed decisions that support long-term sustainability and mission. You'll bring senior financial judgment and deep nonprofit expertise to every relationship while leading the finance and accounting professionals who support each client engagement.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as a CFO-level advisor to nonprofit executives, boards, and funders, building trusted relationships and providing financial guidance that supports organizational strategy, sustainability, and mission.
- Lead financial planning and analysis, including reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cash-flow planning, scenario analysis, and financial-risk assessment.
- Present clear financial insights and recommendations to executive leaders, finance committees, and boards of directors.
- Oversee nonprofit accounting, grant compliance, and applicable financial requirements, including GAAP, ASC 958, federal cost principles, and Uniform Guidance.
- Lead annual audits, single audits, and grantor reviews, and ensure financial information and submissions are accurate, timely, and compliant.
- Advise clients on technical accounting matters, allocation methodologies, indirect-cost rates, reserves, internal controls, and financial policies.
- Identify and recommend improvements to financial processes, controls, reporting, and technology.
- Lead and develop finance and accounting professionals assigned to client engagements while maintaining the quality and timeliness of client deliverables.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related field.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible accounting and finance experience.
- Significant nonprofit finance leadership experience at the CFO level or in an equivalent senior finance leadership role, including responsibility for financial strategy, reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and organizational decision-making.
- Experience advising executive leaders and presenting financial information and recommendations to boards, finance committees, or similar governing bodies.
- Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting and grant accounting or compliance requirements.
- Experience leading audits, strengthening financial controls, and improving accounting or finance processes.
- Demonstrated success leading and developing finance and accounting professionals.
- Strong financial judgment, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in Excel and experience working across accounting or financial-management systems.
Preferred:
- Master’s degree (MBA, MPA) or CPA designation
- Experience in a consulting or business process outsourcing (BPO) environment
- Proven success leading both in-person and decentralized/virtual teams
