General Labor

Port Huron, MI
Job Title: General Labor – Automotive Manufacturing (2nd Shift) Job Description

This full-time, long-term general labor role supports a high-volume automotive manufacturing facility that produces carpeted products for vehicle interiors. You will work primarily on 2nd shift in a press production environment, loading and unloading materials, inspecting parts, and helping to produce formed and trimmed carpet assemblies. The position requires consistent overtime, including 10-hour shifts and regular weekend work, and is ideal for individuals who want stable employment with clear opportunities for advancement.

Responsibilities
  • Load and unload materials and assemblies into and out of production presses in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
  • Handle carpet assemblies weighing approximately 10–15 pounds and lift up to 50 pounds when performing material handling tasks.
  • Operate within stamping cells that include multiple presses, following all safety and production procedures.
  • Inspect parts coming off the press to ensure they meet quality standards and identify any defects or inconsistencies.
  • Trim parts as needed to meet specifications, using appropriate tools and following work instructions.
  • Maintain consistent production output by following established processes and meeting efficiency and quality targets.
  • Work closely with line leaders and production team members to support smooth line operation and resolve minor production issues.
  • Follow training and guidance from line leaders and experienced production employees to quickly learn 2–3 different jobs within the first week.
  • Adhere to all attendance, punctuality, and overtime requirements, including working 10-hour shifts and up to 6 days per week as needed.
  • Support multiple production lines and plants as required, contributing to a team of approximately 70 production employees per shift.
  • Participate in ongoing performance and efficiency tracking by following instructions related to production numbers and goals.
Essential Skills
  • Stable work history with at least 1–2 years of experience in prior jobs.
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality, including consistently arriving on time and avoiding unplanned call-ins.
  • Willingness and ability to work overtime and weekends, including 10-hour shifts and up to 6 days per week.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds when performing material handling tasks.
  • Comfort working in a manufacturing environment that includes presses, stamping cells, and high production volumes.
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks such as loading, unloading, inspecting, and trimming parts while standing for most of the shift.
  • Minimum age of 18.
  • Basic manufacturing and production skills, including loading, unloading, inspection, trimming, and assembly tasks.
  • Attention to detail to identify defects and ensure parts meet quality standards.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Prior experience in manufacturing, production, or automotive environments is beneficial.
  • Experience with inspection or quality-related tasks in a production setting is an asset.
  • Comfort working with sound mat layers, rubber adhesive layers, and carpet or cloth materials.
  • Ability to learn new tasks quickly, typically becoming efficient after about one day of training per job.
  • Willingness to cross-train and learn 2–3 different jobs within the first week.
  • Interest in long-term growth opportunities such as quality inspection, line leadership, or shipping and materials roles.
Why Work Here?

The company offers a highly stable manufacturing environment with a strong track record of growth and long-term contracts that have created hundreds of local jobs. Leadership actively focuses on improving retention and employee satisfaction and invests in internal promotion and training rather than relying on external hires for key roles. Employees benefit from a clear advancement path into areas such as quality, tooling, maintenance, line leadership, and shipping, with numerous promotions already achieved from within the production team. Structured development programs, including a leadership academy for line leaders, support continuous growth and career progression for high-performing employees with strong attendance and work quality.

Work Environment

The facility manufactures carpeted products for the automotive industry, including components installed in trunks, headliners, under hoods, and on vehicle floorboards with soundproof, weather-resistant, and waterproof backing. The operation runs multiple plants in town, each with approximately 70 production employees per shift and several stamping cells containing multiple presses. The shop is a high-production environment where numbers and efficiencies are constantly tracked. You will work primarily on 2nd shift (3:00 p.m.–11:00 p.m.), with other shifts operating from 7:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m.–7:00 a.m. The role currently involves 10-hour days and frequent overtime, including working up to 6 days per week. The production floor can be loud depending on the area, and you will spend most of your time standing at a press with a material cart, loading and unloading parts, inspecting components, and trimming as needed. Training is hands-on: on day one, you are paired with a line leader and a top-producing employee, and each job typically requires about one day of training to reach efficiency, with the expectation that you will learn 2–3 different roles in the first week. The company operates multiple similar facilities, all focused on high-volume automotive production with a structured, process-driven environment.
