Incoming Inspection Technician | Grand Rapids, MI

Salary Range: $48,000 - $72,000 depending on experience

Key Responsibilities

• Perform visual and dimensional inspections of incoming materials, components, and products against specifications, blueprints, and purchase orders.
• Utilize precision measuring instruments (e.g., calipers, micrometers, gauges, CMM) to verify critical dimensions and characteristics.
• Document inspection results accurately, including acceptance, rejection, and any observed non-conformances, in designated quality records or systems.
• Identify, segregate, and label non-conforming materials, initiating Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) and collaborating with relevant departments for resolution.
• Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and quality standards to ensure proper inspection criteria are applied.
• Maintain calibration and proper functioning of inspection equipment and tools, reporting any issues or need for recalibration.
• Assist in the investigation of quality issues related to incoming materials, providing data and samples as needed.

Recommended Qualifications

• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications.
• Proficiency in using precision measurement tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers, gauges).
• Experience with AQL (Acceptable Quality Limit) sampling plans and inspection methodologies.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to identify visual and dimensional defects.
• Basic computer skills for data entry and quality system documentation.

Bonus Qualifications

• Experience operating advanced metrology equipment (e.g., CMM, optical comparator, profilometer).
• Familiarity with enterprise resource planning (ERP) or manufacturing execution systems (MES).
• Basic understanding of GD&T principles beyond fundamental blueprint reading.
• Experience participating in root cause analysis or continuous improvement activities.
