Hybrid Role: This role is hybrid, with an established schedule of in-person work required at an assigned work location. Any remote work is expected to be performed from an employee’s primary residence, unless allowed (or prohibited) through the Company’s remote work guidelines.
Emergency Response: Yes – Must be available to perform a primary assignment in support of DTE’s emergency response to storms or other events that impact service to our customers.
Job Summary
Intermediate level engineer responsible for independently evaluating, selecting and applying standard engineering techniques, procedures and criteria. Uses judgement in applying or recommending adaptions and modifications. Typical assignments are in the areas of engineering or scientific design, problem solving, and technical support for the optimum operation and maintenance of company assets. Participates on teams of field employees, technicians, engineers and other personnel.
Key Accountabilities
- Performs engineering assignments, proposing solutions to engineering related problems.
- Works with experienced professionals to recommend and implement timely solutions involving routine engineering, design, operation, maintenance of company assets and market optimization.
- Collaborates with more experienced engineers to provide follow-up and engineering assistance on defined problems within time and budget constraints.
- Develops models and analyzes data in order to recommend solutions and/or improvements in processes and programs; develops and presents presentations to all levels of management and/or external parties.
- May provide field engineering assistance or technical support.
- Keeps up to date on current technology and market/technology trends.
Minimum Education & Experience Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology and a minimum of 2 years of job relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications
- Degree in Electrical Engineering preferred
- Electrical Engineering experience of 2+ years in Electric Utility Industry – Power Systems Protection & Control.
- Intermediate understanding and experience in Electrical System Protection & control including but not limited to the following:
- Reading & reviewing protection schematics, panel assembly drawings, one-line diagrams & standards.
- Electrical modeling and short circuit analysis, coordination studies in ASPEN, arc flash calculations. Additional short circuit software tools: CAPE or ETAP.
- Intermediate understanding of SEL Relays and how to create relay logic and settings using AcSelerator software.
- Novice - Intermediate hands-on experience with SEL relay testing using a relay test set.
- Novice - Intermediate understanding of NERC Protection Relay and Control (PRC) Standards
- Novice understanding of IEEE Standards.

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, primarily Excel and Word
- Intermediate analytical and problem solving skills
- Strong time management, prioritization, and organization skills
- Proficient communication and interpersonal skills
