The Radiologic Technologist (or X-Ray Tech) operates x-ray equipment to produce radiographs of designated portions of the human body to aid physicians in diagnosis and treatment of illness, injuries and the location of foreign bodies. This role is on-site in our Livonia, MI orthopedic clinic.
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Monitors EMR system for arrival and check-in of patient.
- Reviews patient’s EMR, checking future orders and patient’s office notes, orders x-rays according to the physician guidelines, assigns patient to an exam room in the EMR.
- Escorts patients from the reception area to x-ray room. Interviews patients regarding their medical condition and why they are in our office today, orders the appropriate x-rays in the patient’s EMR per physician protocols. Instruct and assist patient to remove any jewelry or clothing necessary to complete the exam as per physician guidelines.
- Adjusts x-ray equipment (including C-Arm), to correct setting for each examination; positions and instructs patients.
- Arranges, attaches or adjusts immobilization and support devices such as sandbags, binders and angle boards to obtain the precise position, prevent patients from moving and lessen discomfort. Adjust lead shield to protect unaffected parts of the body from exposure to x-ray.
- Perform general diagnostic x-rays for office patients as requested by the provider. Examine x-ray images for density, contrast, definition and distortion. Save and send to the exam room for the physician to review. Uses EMR task list to record order completion.
- Escorts patient to their exam room, verifying that image has transferred to the exam room for the physician’s review
- Maintains orderliness and cleanliness of the work area. Ensures examination rooms are properly stocked with appropriate supplies and equipment. Identifies and uses LEAN principles to increase efficiency and reduce waste and rework.
- Maintain universal precautions and personal safety at all times. Maintains infection control procedures to protect against cross contamination.
- Maintaining x-ray equipment, call service as needed.
- Performs various radiology duties including burning CD’s, importing MRI’s, tracking of arthroscopy scope pictures/disks and importing into the system, scanning films, returning films to other facilities and patients as needed.
- Assists physician and clinic staff as needed. Attend staff meetings, in-services and other meetings as requested.
- Assists with in office procedures using C-Arm and other radiographic equipment as needed
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Required Certifications, Registration or Licensure :
- ARRT registered or registry-eligible Radiologic Technologies. (Registration must be obtained within first six months of employment.)
- Minimum Knowledge and Education:
- 2 years at accredited Radiology school. Previous experience in a hospital or practice setting desired.
- Minimum Work Experience :
- 1 year
Specific Knowledge, Skills, Abilities :
- Orthopedic experience preferred
- Knowledge of anatomy and physiology to perform x-ray testing. Knowledge of radiology equipment (including C-ARM) and common safety hazards associated with this equipment.
- Skill in properly positioning patients.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, physicians, staff and visitors.
- Must speak, read and write English.
- Basic keyboarding skills.
- Ability to apply guidelines and procedures.
- Ability to maintain patient confidentiality.
Physical Requirements :
Must be able to stand for extended periods of time. May occasionally lift materials weighing up to 50lbs. May bend, stoop and twist to transport and position patients. May assist in lifting patients weighing over 200lbs. Vision must be correctable to 20/20 and hearing must be in normal range. Manual dexterity to use radiologic and office equipment.
