Weekly Gross Pay: $3000 - $3100
40 hours guaranteed pay
Shift: 8 Hours; 5 days in a week
Start: June 1st
Duration: 13-week contract
Ideal candidates should have:
- Minimum 1 year of fulltime Radiation Therapist experience
- ARRT (T) certification required
- State Radiation Therapist license - (If Applicable )
- BLS certification required
- Varian Trubeam and Aria
Job Description
The Radiation Therapist provides radiation therapy to patients as prescribed by a radiologist according to established practices and standards. Duties may include reviewing prescription and diagnosis; acting as a liaison with physician and supportive care personnel; preparing equipment, such as immobilization, treatment, and protection devices; and maintaining records, reports, and files. May assist in dosimetry procedures and tumor localization.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Radiation Therapist is expected to practice safe procedures and adheres to radiation safety measures under the supervision of the Radiology supervisor or the Radiologist. Specific duties may include but are not limited to:
· Assists in localizing tumors, participate in treatment planning, and delivers high doses of ionizing radiation prescribed by Radiation Oncologists.
· Serves as the primary liaison between patients and other members of the radiation oncology team. They also provide a link to other health care providers, such as social workers and dietitians.
· Radiation therapy often involves daily treatments extending over several weeks. This treatment method uses highly sophisticated equipment and requires a great deal of initial planning as well as constant patient care and monitoring.
· Maintain a high degree of accuracy and an awareness of safety issues.
· Remain sensitive to the physical and emotional needs of patients.
· Administer radiation therapy as prescribed by the physician.
· Display professional conduct essential to the well being of the radiation oncology patient.
· Demonstrate effective written communication skills; Maintain accurate and detailed treatment chart documentation.
· Demonstrate effective verbal communication skills in the clinical setting.
· Observe the clinical progress of the radiation oncology patient, use clinical decision-making skills to recognize and report any signs of complications.
· Utilize treatment accessories to accurately reproduce the radiation treatment.
· Adhere to radiation safety procedure protocol.
· Perform machine safety checks, know safe limits of equipment operations, and report abnormalities or inconsistencies to the proper authority.
· Construct immobilization devices and employ custom blocking techniques that are conducive to conformal radiation therapy.
· Utilize sophisticated imaging equipment and treatment planning systems for precise tumor localization.
· Work closely with the radiation Oncologist and the therapy team in the preparation of a treatment plan that is
· customized to the patient’s needs.
· Adhere to the Radiation Therapist Code of Ethics.
· Perform all duties using proper body mechanics.
· Frequently move/lift between 50-100 pounds, depending on assignment requirements
· Stand for long periods with frequent squatting, twisting, bending, kneeling and reaching to prepare equipment, materials or objects in order to provide patient care or maintain the patient environment
· Manual dexterity and fine motor coordination
· Ability to work in a stressful environment
· Ability to follow directions/instructions from his/her supervisor.
· Consistent attendance is required to assure that the client facilities’ needs and patient needs are met.
· To comply with all client facilities’ policies, procedures and practices
Working Conditions:
The Radiation Therapist must understand and accept the possibility of exposure to inside environmental conditions, such as radiation, noise, infectious/communicable diseases, blood and bloodborne diseases, chemicals and/or chemical fumes, odors, gases and dusts. Frequent exposures to distressed patients, families or visitors.
