Are you finishing cosmetology school or waiting for your license and looking for a strong start behind the chair ? Our Stylist in Training role is designed to help you transition confidently from school into a professional salon environment—with structure, support, and a clear growth path.

This is a temporary, up to 90-day position created for individuals who are preparing for licensure and want real-world salon experience before stepping into a Stylist role.

What You’ll Do:

As a Stylist in Training, you will:

• Learn day-to-day salon operations by observing experienced stylists and managers
• Understand guest flow, service standards, and salon expectations
• Greet guests, assist with check-in, and answer phones professionally
• Deliver excellent customer service at every touchpoint
• Maintain salon cleanliness, organization, and sanitation standards
• Follow all safety, operational, and brand guidelines

While this role is focused on learning and support, it plays an important role in the overall guest experience and salon success.

Path to Stylist:

Stylist in Training team members may be eligible for promotion to a Stylist position once licensed.

Promotion is not automatic. To be considered, you must:

• Obtain a valid cosmetology license
• Demonstrate readiness to perform services
• Meet performance, professionalism, and attendance expectations
• Consistently demonstrate Great Clips values: honesty, accountability, integrity, and respect

A formal application for the Stylist position is required.

We’d Love to Hear From You If You:

• Are graduating from an accredited cosmetology program or will be licensed within 90 days
• Have strong time management and sound judgment
• Communicate professionally with guests, coworkers, and leadership
• Are comfortable using basic technology (POS systems, data entry)
• Can work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift up to 10 lbs regularly and up to 25 lbs occasionally
• Ability to stand for extended periods
• Ability to read, write, and perform basic math
• Availability for required meetings and training (including occasional travel)
