Certified Surgical First Assistant Job Details

• Location: Kalamazoo, Michigan (ZIP 49048) – Michigan healthcare jobs
• Setting: Surgery – First Assistant, Operating Room (OR Tech)
• Employment Type: Travel
• Estimated Weekly Salary: $2,100 - $2,150/week
• Start Date: September 15, 2025
• End Date: December 15, 2025
• Duration: 13-week contract
• Shift: 4x10-hour day shifts (07:00 – 17:30)
• Guaranteed Hours: 40 hours per week
• Call Requirements: 2 call shifts per week; 2 weekend call shifts per 6-week schedule
• Holiday Coverage: Per unit rotation
• Scrub Color: Provided
• Charting System: Cerner

Certified Surgical First Assistant Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of recent experience as a Certified Surgical First Assistant or Operating Room Technician (OR Tech)
• Demonstrated experience in neuro, vascular, orthopedic, and outpatient surgical procedures
• Proficiency with Da Vinci Xi Surgical System required
• BLS Skills certification required (pending certifications accepted)
• Trauma Level II experience required; Trauma Level I experience preferred
• Experience with Cerner electronic charting system preferred
• Must reside at least 50 miles from facility (no local candidates)
• COVID-19 and Flu vaccinations required (medical/religious exemptions considered)
• Pending Michigan state license accepted if active by start date
• Willingness to complete up to 8 hours of pre-start training modules

Surgical First Assistant Responsibilities

• Assist surgeons in a variety of procedures including neuro, vascular, orthopedic, and outpatient cases
• Operate and maintain the Da Vinci Xi Surgical System
• Provide technical assistance and ensure sterile technique during surgical procedures
• Participate in call rotation and holiday coverage as scheduled
• Float within the hospital or to affiliate hospitals as needed based on patient volume
• Maintain accurate documentation using Cerner charting system
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to deliver exceptional patient care
