About the Opportunity

Reliance One is seeking a highly skilled Field Service Technician to support equipment installation, troubleshooting, and customer-facing service operations in Plymouth, Michigan. This role is ideal for a hands-on technical professional with strong mechanical and electrical aptitude who enjoys working directly with customers and solving complex system issues in the field.

In this position, you will serve as a key company representative, ensuring equipment is installed, tested, and operating at the highest level of quality and performance.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a professional liaison and company representative with customers, maintaining a high level of professionalism at all times.
  • Lead and support mechanical and electrical installation activities, working independently or alongside skilled trades.
  • Install, terminate, and support field wiring along with pneumatic and hydraulic systems, verifying all work against engineering drawings.
  • Power up, test, and troubleshoot equipment to ensure proper functionality.
  • Perform final electrical quality inspections of equipment prior to release.
  • Conduct initial system checks in preparation for commissioning activities.
  • Identify, document, and communicate discrepancies to engineering teams for resolution.
  • Troubleshoot and repair products and systems in accordance with defined processes and specifications.
  • Complete service reports, expense reports, and other required documentation in a timely manner.
  • Participate in training programs and actively contribute to skill development and technical growth.
  • Provide feedback on troubleshooting procedures and continuous improvement initiatives to improve equipment effectiveness (OEE).
  • Perform in-house repairs and post-production testing of equipment as needed.
  • Support manufacturing shop floor tasks as assigned.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment in accordance with 5S standards.
  • Communicate effectively with customers, including explaining issues, categorizing problems, and resolving service requests.
  • Provide informal operator instruction on products and test systems.
  • Drive timely resolution of issues and ensure proper follow-up on open items.
  • Maintain assigned calibration equipment and ensure proper usage.
  • Complete all required safety training and adhere to safety standards.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in Engineering or equivalent technical trade school experience.
  • Minimum of 2+ years of experience with test automation equipment and test bed operations.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret USA ladder logic and European IEC electrical schematics.
  • Experience reading and understanding control circuits.
  • Ability to power up, troubleshoot, and diagnose equipment issues.
  • Strong leadership or coordination experience in technical environments.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to handle customer feedback professionally, demonstrating patience and strong listening skills.
  • Must be able to independently analyze, categorize, and resolve service issues.
  • Willingness and ability to travel 90% or more.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of complete test cell operations and equipment.
  • Experience in manufacturing or automated test environments.
  • Strong troubleshooting experience with complex electromechanical systems.

Must-Have Requirement

  • Soldering experience and wire termination experience is required.
