About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Engineer to join our Architectural and Engineering Design firm. In this key position, you will lead the design and development of electrical systems for commercial and K-12 educational projects, ensuring compliance with client requirements, industry standards, and applicable codes. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams, manage project timelines and budgets, and provide mentorship to junior engineers.

Key Responsibilities
Design & Development
- Lead the design of electrical power, lighting, life safety, and security systems for commercial and K-12 facilities.
- Create detailed electrical drawings, schematics, one-line diagrams, and specifications .
- Ensure all designs meet relevant codes, standards, and regulations .
Project Management
- Manage electrical engineering projects from concept through completion.
- Coordinate closely with architects, mechanical engineers, and other stakeholders.
- Oversee project schedules, budgets, and resources for timely delivery.
Technical Expertise
- Provide expert guidance on system selection, lighting controls, and standby power systems.
- Perform load calculations, lighting calculations, short-circuit and arc flash analyses .
- Specify auxiliary systems including fire alarms, access control, and integrate with CCTV/low voltage systems.
- Conduct site inspections and ensure design feasibility.
Quality Assurance
- Review, approve, sign, and seal engineering documents.
- Conduct thorough quality control checks and resolve technical issues during construction.
Leadership & Mentorship
- Mentor junior engineers and support staff.
- Promote a culture of continuous learning and professional growth.
- Lead design review meetings and provide constructive feedback.
Client Interaction
- Engage with clients to gather requirements and present technical solutions.
- Prepare and deliver proposals, reports, and presentations.
- Ensure client satisfaction through excellent communication and project management.
Additional Duties
- Perform other tasks as assigned.
Supervision
- General Direction: Plan and arrange your own work with minimal oversight.
- Advanced Supervision: Assign and prioritize tasks for subordinates, approve time off, provide training and coaching, and ensure quality work output.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Architectural Engineering , or a related field.
- 15+ years of experience in electrical engineering (K-12 project experience preferred).
- Proven track record of managing and delivering complex projects successfully.
- Demonstrated creative thinking, design ability, and technical proficiency .
Licenses & Certifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in Michigan (or eligibility via reciprocity).
Skills & Competencies
- Proficiency in electrical design software, lighting design calculation tools, and Revit .
- Strong understanding of electrical codes, standards, and regulations .
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills .
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Bluebeam (preferred).
- Strong time management, organizational skills, and attention to detail .
- Ability to handle multiple projects under tight deadlines.
- Willingness to travel to project sites (within Michigan).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with sustainable design and energy-efficient systems .
- Familiarity with smart grids, renewable energy systems, and energy storage solutions .
- Proven ability to manage client relationships and contribute to business development.
