Job Summary
Van Buren School District, serving approximately 4,300 students across 8 schools in Belleville, MI , is seeking a high-energy, hands-on Assistant Director of Dining Services who thrives on being visible and engaged. In this role, you’ll support daily operations, help lead a team of up to 27 associates, and be a consistent, boots-on-the-ground presence—especially during lunch—building connections with students and staff while creating a positive, student-centered dining experience.
You’ll champion and bring to life our programs like Mood Boost, Global Eats, and Student Choice , driving excitement and engagement across the district. The ideal candidate is a collaborative team player with a food service background, a willingness to learn and grow, and a passion for being in the action—not behind a desk. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Works with the Director and Frontline team in creating nutritious and top quality food.
- Implements new culinary programs in conjunction with the marketing and culinary teams.
- Maintains excellent relationships with the client.
- Manages, trains, and develops associates.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- 1 to 3 years of food service supervisory or lead experience.
- Experience in restaurants, hotels, corporate dining, education, military, health care, and/or related food service operations.
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Financial experience and business acumen skills.
- Proficient computer skills and knowledge of MS Office products, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and internet.
- Associate’s degree is preferred.
