2 nd Shift Operations Supervisor 

POSITION SUMMARY

The Operations Supervisor is a key frontline leader responsible for overseeing production on their assigned shift, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality operations. This role plays a critical part in executing the company's performance management operating model, which includes tiered performance reviews and action meetings, and drives continuous improvement across the platform. The Operations Supervisor directly manages hourly production staff on their shift and serves as the main point of contact between the line team and production floor, fostering collaboration with Manufacturing Process Owners, Maintenance, Manufacturing Engineers, Quality Leads, and other cross-functional team members.

WORK SCHEDULE & AVAILABILITY 

The Operations Supervisor is expected to maintain regular and predictable attendance.

This position is assigned to a designated shift and requires flexibility to adjust work schedules as needed to support business demands, staffing needs, and operational priorities. Additional hours, weekends, and schedule adjustments may be required to ensure effective leadership coverage and operational success.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Safety, Quality, and Compliance 

  • Champion a safety-first approach, enforcing compliance with safety protocols, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and participating in our Observation-Based Safety program.
  • Maintain rigorous standards of quality and food safety by enforcing compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
  • Conduct routine safety and quality audits on the production floor, collaborating with Manufacturing Process Owners and Quality teams to identify and resolve issues promptly.

Shift Leadership and Team Management 

  • Lead, motivate, and develop a team of hourly production team members, setting clear expectations and providing ongoing coaching to achieve daily and shift-level targets modeling our core values.
  • Drive team accountability and performance by facilitating daily tiered meetings, reviewing key performance metrics, and executing action plans.
  • Provide day-to-day direction, problem-solving support, and feedback to team members, promoting a culture of ownership and continuous improvement.
  • Perform tactical duties: Resource planning (people scheduling, time off requests, payroll), end-of-shift reporting.

Production Management and Execution 

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of assigned production lines, ensuring that production schedules are met while minimizing downtime and maximizing equipment efficiency, escalating when appropriate.
  • Collaborate with the Manufacturing Process Owner to monitor and adjust centerlines, optimize throughput, and drive compliance with operational standards.
  • Support execution of line trials, product changeovers, and other production activities, ensuring smooth transitions and minimal disruptions.

Performance Management and Continuous Improvement 

  • Participate actively in the performance management operating model, leading shift-specific reviews and contributing to tiered performance meetings at various levels.
  • Utilize Lean and Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) tools to identify process bottlenecks, eliminate waste, and implement sustainable improvements.
  • Partners with cross-functional teams to analyze data, identify root causes of performance gaps, and develop action plans to enhance safety, quality, delivery, and cost (SQDC) outcomes.

People Development and Training 

  • Foster an inclusive work environment where team members are empowered, valued, and motivated to contribute to the organization’s success – know your people and build into your team through consistent team and one-on-one connections.
  • Develop team members' technical skills through hands-on training (OIFs & HOD, coaching, and formal development plans (IDPs), ensuring high levels of competence and flexibility across shifts.
  • Collaborate with the Manufacturing Process Owners and Operations Manager to create and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and ensure consistent training and adherence across the team.

Communication and Cross-Functional Collaboration 

  • Serve as the main communication bridge between shift teams and cross-functional resources, ensuring alignment on shift objectives, production priorities, and key issues.
  • Facilitate effective communication across all levels, including escalation of critical issues to line leadership and active participation in shift handovers.
  • Work closely with the Maintenance Manager and Manufacturing Engineer to ensure equipment readiness, minimize downtime, and support ongoing maintenance activities.

Operational Excellence and Project Support 

  • Support execution of strategic initiatives and projects, providing input on operational improvements, resource planning, and implementation strategies.
  • Contribute to the development of a high-performance culture by promoting team engagement, setting high standards, and recognizing outstanding performance.
  • Lead small to medium-scale continuous improvement projects, leveraging data and operator feedback to drive process enhancements.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Perform other duties, responsibilities, and assignments as required to support business operations.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience: 

  • High School diploma required. Bachelor’s degree in Operations Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in food production or CPG (Consumer Packaged Goods) industries.
  • Previous supervisory experience with a proven track record of leading teams to achieve safety, quality, and operational excellence.

Skills and Competencies: 

  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire, coach, and develop high-performing teams.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across all levels of the organization.
  • Sound problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities, particularly in dynamic and fast-paced environments.
  • Knowledge of Lean manufacturing principles, continuous improvement methodologies, and performance management practices.
  • Technical aptitude and familiarity with manufacturing equipment and production processes including GMPs, HACCP, & SQF.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Mobility: Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the manufacturing facility, including frequent movement between production lines, workstations, and support areas. Ability to remain on the production floor for the majority of the shift while supervising operations, conducting observations, coaching team members, and responding to production issues. Occasional sitting is required for administrative tasks, meetings, and computer work.
  • Manual Dexterity: Ability to use hands and fingers to operate computers, tablets, handheld devices, production controls, and standard office equipment. Ability to write, complete documentation, and manipulate small objects as needed.
  • Physical Strength: Ability to occasionally lift, carry, push, and/or pull up to 50 pounds. May occasionally move production materials, tools, supplies, or equipment.
  • V ision: Visual acuity for reading detailed documents, viewing screens, labels, instrumentation, and analyzing data. This includes close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth vision, with or without correction.
  • Hearing and Communication: Ability to communicate effectively in a manufacturing environment with elevated noise levels, using hearing protection when required. Must be able to hear alarms, equipment signals, and verbal communications, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Safety Equipment: Ability to wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, hearing protection, hairnets, beard nets, gloves, appropriate footwear, and any other required food safety or safety equipment.

WORK ENVIRONMENT 

This role is based in a manufacturing facility and requires the ability to work safely around active industrial equipment, with varying temperatures and elevated noise levels. Team members must be able to work in cool conditions (typically 35°F–45°F) and in wet environments, including areas where strobe or flashing lights may be present. Some work areas may also have strong magnetic fields that could interfere with certain implanted medical devices.
