Precision Machining Programmer — Mill‑Turn Operations

You’re handed a challenging print. You open Mastercam or Hypermill, convert the CAD to toolpaths, build a crisp setup sheet, and select tooling and offsets that cut cycle time without sacrificing quality. You brief your operator, lead the mill and lathe setups, and keep a close eye on first-article results—tweaking strategies to boost yield and reduce cost. When a hiccup appears, you troubleshoot, loop in supporting departments, and keep the schedule green. That’s a typical win in this role.

Your Mission

• Turn customer drawings/specs into robust CNC programs for mill and lathe work.
• Create or refine 3D models and 2D drawings as needed to support programming.
• Generate setup sheets; choose cutting tools and apply tool offsets to meet safety, quality, and delivery goals.
• Lead/instruct setups on CNC Mills and CNC Lathes; solve programming challenges quickly.
• Issue purchasing requisitions for tooling and BOM items to keep work flowing.
• Partner with internal teams to resolve manufacturing issues and drive continuous improvement in our QMS.
• Run a compact cell with up to three CNC machines and directly manage one operator’s day-to-day work.

What It Takes

• High School diploma or GED; associate’s/technical credentials are a plus.
• Minimum 1 year of CNC programming experience.
• Minimum 4 years of machining experience (unless qualified by manager).
• Mastercam or Hypermill proficiency; strong overall computer skills.
• Excellent blueprint reading; working knowledge of GD&T (deeper expertise preferred).
• Strong problem solver and adaptable teammate; leadership skills highly preferred.
• Comfort with machinist gauges (calipers, micrometers, etc.).
• Experience across materials: steel, aluminum, stainless, plastics, titanium, copper, ceramic, and others.
• 3-axis mill setup/operation required; 4- and 5-axis mills preferred; prior CNC machining & setup experience preferred.
• Proficient in GD&T; familiar with AS9100 practices.
• Able to lift 50–75 lbs, sit or stand for long periods, and work overtime on a flexible schedule.
