Position Title: Benefits Coordinator

Work Schedule: Full-time; Monday-Friday 8:30-5:00, occasional evenings and weekends

Summary:

The Benefits Coordinator position will be focused on areas of expertise, which may include health insurance, retirement processing, retirement plans, as well as absence management, workplace injuries, education benefits, and compliance.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Administer all benefits and retirement programs, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, long-term disability, FSA/DCSA/HSA, and 403(b) plans for multiple employee groups, including two collective bargaining agreements
  • Oversee annual open enrollments for staff and faculty
  • Field benefit-related questions including claim inquiries, plan changes, 403(b) hardship withdrawals, and tuition waiver requests
  • Keep apprised of regulatory changes, including IRS, ERISA, and DOL, which impact plan design
  • Administer, interpret, process, and track all leaves of absence, including FMLA, workers’ compensation, LTD, and Short Term Disability (STD).
  • Plan and coordinate informational meetings/trainings regarding benefit plans
  • Process with COBRA notices with third party vendor
  • Process workers’ compensation and health/safety education efforts
  • Provides advice and guidance to College employees, students, and retirees regarding benefits based on the benefit areas they support.
  • Participates in the design and review of individual benefit plans and/or programs.
  • Coordinates the preparation and implementation of communication and educational programs and materials
  • Performs complex reconciliations of benefits-related data
  • Researches and resolves complex, non-routine problems
  • Participates in the development of new or revised benefits policy recommendations.
  • Ensures compliance with various College and union (2) policies, procedures, and guidelines, as well as applicable federal and state laws
  • Additionally, the candidate should demonstrate attention to detail and the ability to identify, analyze, and solve data and/or procedural problems
  • Process 1095’s with the HRIS system
  • Assist with audits
  • Must maintain a comprehensive understanding of all payroll cycles and procedures to provide seamless backup support for the Payroll department during peak periods or absences
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business or related field of study and 1- 3 years of relevant work experience or equivalent experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software suite, especially Excel and Word
  • Ability to clearly communicate, in both written and verbal correspondence, to a diverse audience
  • Must be able to sit for long periods of time and perform duties within the normal bounds of an office environment.
  • Due to the collaborative nature of the team and the need for direct client/customer interaction, in-person attendance is an essential function of this position.

Desired Qualifications:

  • CEBS, SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP certification preferred
  • Demonstrated experience in enhancing benefit portfolios
  • Experience creating and conducting benefit and retirement-related workshops
  • Experience in a unionized setting

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at a time
