Geotechnical Engineering Manager (PE Required)
Geotechnical Department Manager – Auburn Hills, MI | Michigan P.E. Required
Location: Auburn Hills, MI | Hybrid (2–3 days in office, remaining remote)
Salary: $120K – $150K + Bonus (up to 15%)
Employment Type: Full-Time
About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced Geotechnical Department Manager to lead our Auburn Hills team. In this senior leadership role, you will oversee geotechnical engineering projects across industrial, commercial, and residential sectors , manage budgets and staff, and drive project delivery. This is an excellent opportunity for a Michigan P.E.-licensed professional with strong leadership, technical, and business development skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the geotechnical engineering department , including team performance, mentoring, and professional growth.
- Oversee project delivery , including proposals, scheduling, resource planning, and client communications.
- Develop and monitor departmental budgets , track profitability, and ensure financial performance.
- Collaborate with Business Development to drive new project opportunities and maintain client relationships.
- Ensure compliance with Michigan geotechnical codes, regulations, and QA/QC standards .
- Coordinate with architects, civil, and structural engineers to optimize project outcomes.
- Foster a positive, collaborative work culture and promote staff development.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent)
- Michigan P.E. license required
- 10+ years of geotechnical/civil engineering experience , with progressive responsibility
- Proven leadership in managing teams, budgets, and multi-disciplinary projects
- Strong knowledge of soil mechanics, foundation design, slope stability , and site development
- Proficiency with geotechnical software (e.g., PLAXIS, GeoStudio, Rocscience) and Microsoft Office
Preferred Skills:
- Experience in business development, proposal writing, and client networking
- Financial management skills: budgeting, profitability analysis, and collections
- Mentoring and professional development of junior staff
