Intro
Since 1963, Sheakley has been a trusted leader in safety management across construction and industrial environments. We are hiring a Field Safety Technician to support plumbing and mechanical activities in the powerhouse at a battery plant in Marshall, MI. This role is ideal for safety professionals with plumbing or mechanical backgrounds who can partner with the onsite Safety Manager to drive compliance, training, and daily field safety on second shift.

The Field Safety Technician will assist with daily site safety activities, support permit to work processes, and help enforce OSHA requirements to ensure a safe and efficient work environment.

Compensation
💲 Rate: $48 to $50 per hour
🍽 Per Diem: $1,000 per week
💸 Pay Frequency: Weekly

Schedule
🕒 Hours: 40 to 45 hours per week
📅 Schedule: Second Shift

Project Scope
This assignment supports safety oversight for plumbing and mechanical work inside a powerhouse at a battery plant, including:

• Daily field inspections for plumbing and mechanical scopes

• Support for permit to work, hot work, confined space, and LOTO processes

• Assistance with JHAs and pre task plans, plus toolbox talks and orientations

• Verification of subcontractor certifications and training compliance

• Documentation of inspections, near misses, incidents, and corrective actions

• Coordination with foremen and site leadership to maintain safety culture

Responsibilities include:

• Conducting daily safety walks, audits, and hazard recognition

• Assisting with toolbox talks, orientations, and targeted safety training

• Completing safety reports, incident documentation, and corrective action tracking

• Monitoring work areas for PPE use, housekeeping, and safe work practices

• Supporting the onsite Safety Manager with day to day EHS tasks and coordination

Qualifications
✅ OSHA 30, required
✅ Current First Aid and CPR, required
✅ Plumbing and or mechanical experience in industrial settings, required
✅ Familiarity with LOTO, confined space, hot work, and fall protection
✅ Strong communication, organization, and documentation skills

Preferred Credentials
✅ OSHA 510
✅ Competent Person training for confined space, fall protection, and LOTO
✅ NCCER or equivalent trade credentials in plumbing or mechanical

Knowledge Base
Strong working knowledge of:

• Plumbing and mechanical safety in industrial or power environments

• Permit to work systems, JHAs, hazard communication, and PPE programs

• Confined space entry, hot work controls, and LOTO procedures

• Incident reporting, near miss investigation, and regulatory documentation
