Housing Resources, Inc. (HRI) is seeking a compassionate, community-minded individual to serve as a Cooling Center Coordinator during excessive heat emergencies in Kalamazoo County. When the heat rises, our doors open to provide relief, hydration, and safety—especially for our unhoused neighbors.

Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee daily operations of the cooling center during activation

• Greet and check in guests, provide orientation and ensure a safe environment

• Train and support volunteers

• Monitor guest wellbeing and follow safety/security protocols

• Maintain cleanliness and restock supplies (water, sanitizer, etc.)

• Respond to concerns or emergencies and escalate when needed

• Log attendance, incidents, and center activity

Who We're Looking For:

• High School Diploma or GED

• Positive attitude and strong interpersonal skills

• Experience working with diverse populations

• Comfortable enforcing safety protocols and maintaining calm in dynamic situations

• Strong communication and problem-solving abilities

• Experience of homelessness welcomed and valued

• Bilingual candidates encouraged to apply
