Senior Functional System Architect - Brake Controls
Description
Hybrid: This means the successful candidate is expected to report to their primary location (Milford, MI) three times per week, at minimum.

The Role:
The candidate must be able to take high level Braking System feature concepts and translate them into Feature, System and Subsystem detailed requirements and to create a physical and functional decomposition for controls, software and hardware teams to implement. In many cases, concepts are not always well defined, and the requirement generation can involve considerable research/investigation/Simulation/Math to be transformed into publishable requirements and architectures. Candidate must be an expert with Braking System Functional, performance, Fault analysis, Fault Propagation, Fault maturation and remedial action strategies as well as all regional regulatory requirements. Candidate must have a strong background in ASIL D safety systems. Candidate must be a highly effective leader, communicator and collaborator. The candidate will be the technical lead of a large team of Function engineers in order to define all aspects of a vehicle braking systems.
What You’ll do:
Comprehend and Define Functional System Requirements and architectures.
Technical leader of large group of engineers to define all aspects of vehicle Braking Systems. Mentoring, guidance and review of Function Engineers work products
Directly support development scrum teams in the Braking ART.
Work with adjacent teams to capture customer facing requirements (NVH, Performance, functionality, Diagnostics, Remedial actions)
Reference System Safety Hazard Analysis and partition safety hazard requirements to functions
Comprehend applicable government regulations
Integration of Brake System into the vehicle including interfaces with other disciplines (steering, Propulsion, Active Safety, etc.)
Develop acceptance Criteria for new/modified features and ensure acceptance criteria are met prior to releasing
Define Functional Controls and Hardware Requirements
Define remedial actions based on fault detection, Propagation and Maturation
Define context diagram, Functional Architecture Diagrams and hardware integration of the functions
Define the functional and physical partitioning of requirements and overall architecture to ECUs
Define function’s interface requirements (including aging, build variation, Noise factors, environmental factors, conflicting constraints, etc.)
Define functional requirements and mapping of inputs to outputs
Support creation of Braking System Performance Requirements.
Support creation of actuator and sensor Functional and performance requirements (HW)
Define how inputs to the function are used to transform the outputs (latency, overshoot, oscillation, etc.)
Define/Support calibratable aspects of the function
Define diagnostic, degraded state, remedial action, and recovery requirements
Define use cases and measurable/objective performance requirements for normal and degraded states
Define signal/data retention requirements
Lead System/Subsystem DFMEAs and participate in design level DFMEAs
Mange requirements utilizing GM requirements Standard tool suites
Deliver requirements, and tested products on time
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
Bachelor's degree of Engineering required
Minimum of 5 years of experience with Vehicle Braking Systems or General Chassis Systems
Minimum of 5 years of experience with ASIL D safety systems.
Minimum of 5 years of experience with Vehicle Dynamics/Kinematics
Expert understanding of the physics related to related Systems.
Ability to make sense of chaos and translate into the understandable
High level of interpersonal styles and communication Skills to lead a large group of function engineers and also work cooperatively/collaboratively with adjacent teams such as Systems, Elect Architecture, Controls, Software, and Hardware teams, both within and without the home organization
Ability to interface effectively with Supplier’s software and controls organizations as well as GM in-house Controls/Software teams
Experience with Requirements management tools (i.e. Doors, DNG, etc.)
Experience with Change management tools (i.e. JIRA, Rational Team Concert, aka RTC)
Background using simulation environments and Plant modeling for fault insertion analysis, testing, requirements generation (Matlab/Simulink, CarSim, D-Space, ETAS, other)
High level of analytical problem-solving ability, including independent judgment and decision making skills, where problems are very unusual and at times extremely difficult
Ability to prioritize work with only limited direction from manager
High level of oral and written communication skills
What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Skills)
Masters or PhD in engineering with an emphasis on Controls or mechatronic Systems
Experience with OBD regulations/requirements, and regional federal regulatory requirements
Experience working in embedded controls/software organization
