ASSISTANT DIRECTOR / EXTERNAL RELATIONS & STUDENT SERVICES
The assistant director of external relations and student services manages the daily operations of the College of Business Administration ( CBA )’s Office of Student Engagement and Professional Development (The HUB ) alongside the director of student experiences and the associate director of student services. This includes supporting CBA student recruiting activities, student career and professional development, and K-12 outreach and programming. A primary focus of this position is the development of employer relationships, support of CBA internship coordinators and processes, and serving as the lead liaison with the CMU Career Center. This position reports to the Associate Director of Student Services in the HUB and often coordinates activities with the Dean’s office.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in business, student affairs, or a related field.
Experience working with students, clients, or customers.
Capacity to build positive, collaborative relationships with various stakeholders, including employers, external partners, and the CMU community.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and project a positive attitude.
Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed.
Demonstrated organizational skills and strong attention to detail.
Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise independent judgement.
Ability to plan, establish priorities, and handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in business, student affairs, counseling, higher education administration, or a related field.
Three years of experience working directly with students, clients, or customers.
Experience working on student programming at K-12 or higher education institutions.
Experience in event management and working with large-scale groups.
Experience working with faculty.
Experience with recruitment and advising technology.
Experience in academic advising, success coaching, or a related area.
Knowledge of CMU’s College of Business Administration ( CBA ) programs and initiatives.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Plans, executes, and evaluates K-12 CBA outreach and summer programming activities in alignment with the college’s enrollment goals.
Engages with University Events, Risk Management, Residence Life, the CBA Marketing and Communications team, and the HUB as needed to plan and implement on-campus student programming.
Partners with the Career Development Center’s CBA liaison on the development of employer relationships, on-campus events, and positive student outcomes.
Collaborates with academic departments and the dean’s office to support internship processes, including the collection of data needed for university reporting and to evaluate the improvement of programs.
Partners with the associate director as a CBA representative on the Office of Student Recruitment and Retention Recruiting Liaison committee and supports the planning and execution of student recruiting and yield events each year.
Works with the associate director to manage the CBA Student Ambassador program, including but not limited to selection, training, and oversight of the CBA ambassadors, facilitating faculty engagement in student recruiting, and participation in CBA outreach initiatives and activities.
Works with various partners within CBA to plan and implement recruitment/retention initiatives.
Represents CBA at campus-wide events focused on undergraduate student advising, student success, or career development.
Collaborates with CBA’s director of student services and academic advisors as needed to support academic planning and summer orientation.
Stays abreast of university changes in undergraduate curriculum, academic and career advising, undergraduate recruitment initiatives, and other changes that may impact the duties of this position.
