JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for creating meal portions, meal prep and cooking meals for all Blue Water Hospice Home patients. The Facility Cook is expected to maintain cleanliness throughout the shift and keep all work areas clean and sanitized. Set up and stocking station with all necessary supplies, stocking inventory, and cutting prep for the next day. Food handling regulations, dietary restrictions, and sanitation procedures are of the highest priority. This position is responsible for all the clean up in the kitchen area which must be maintained throughout the shift.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Prepare breakfast, lunch and dinner as instructed by the menu. Follow all recipes, dietary restrictions and portion control standards outlined. Prepare the food in a timely manner to meet the patient's schedule outlined.
- Calibrate thermometer, review equipment temperatures and record them.
- Calibrate thermometer, take temperatures of food and keep a log per food safety guidelines.
- Work with other team members to ensure proper food rotation and handling is taking place per food safety regulations.
- All products must be clearly labeled and rotated.
- Always maintain a clean and sanitary work environment by following operating procedures.
- Prepare components of each dish according to the recipe.
- Follow all dietary restrictions and patient instructions provided in the plan of care provided. Ensure food comes out simultaneously, in high quality and in a timely fashion.
- Set up stocking station with all necessary supplies
- Prepare all meals as instructed by the Food & Beverage Coordinator.
SUPPLEMENTAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Attends required community and agency meetings as required.
- Attends all mandatory trainings and in-service programs.
- Complies with all Relias training requirements, including completion due dates.
- Maintains a positive working relationship with all agency staff through ongoing communication and open dialogue.
- Embraces the culture of kindness with a patient and family focused response ensuring a best practice approach.
- Supports the organization by adhering to its policies and procedures and adheres to all rules and regulations.
- Maintains confidentiality of clients, employees and agency records.
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential and supplemental job function satisfactorily. Individual should be flexible and able to carry out multiple assignments and able to work effectively and efficiently with deadlines. Individual should be a problem solver and creative in providing suggestion and recommendations for improvements. - EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: High School Diploma or equivalent. Additional education related to medical rules, regulations, and processes. Computer knowledge and experience for basic programs as found in a medical setting. Food Handlers card. Serve Safe Certification preferred.
- LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret information. Ability to write business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond accurately to questions from patients, families, and the general public.
- MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rates and interpret bar graphs.
- REASONING ABILITY: Must possess the ability to evaluate problem situations and, when appropriate, come to independent conclusions or knowledge of when to refer to Supervisor.
- CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Must have current Michigan driver's license. Must have valid automobile insurance and reliable transportation or alternate provisions.
- OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Maintains confidentiality of patient, employee and agency records.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Must be able to be on your feet for 8 hours per day
- Must be able to work under pressure in a hot environment with little to no direction.
- Must be able to operate a computer, telephone and other office machinery for majority of time.
- The person in this position must be able to frequently communicate verbally and exchange accurate information.
- Must be able to see at close and distance vision, adjust visual focus and perceive peripheral and depth perception.
- Must be able to move / transport up to 50 pounds without an issue.
- Must be able to have hand-eye coordination to use sharp equipment and operate potentially dangerously hot equipment.
