Mechanical Engineer Internship
WORK LOCATION: Ann Arbor, MI
SALARY RANGE: $20 - $26 FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt Summary As a Mechanical Engineering Intern, you will gain hands-on experience and apply your theoretical knowledge to real-world engineering projects. This is a part-time, temporary position. Dates will be determined upon hire, but will not exceed 90 days. As part of our intern program, you will be assigned to a senior staff member and supervisor with specific goals and objectives to accomplish. Responsibilities The following job functions are a basic requirement but are not limited to and may be assigned other duties.- Project Support: You will assist the engineering team in designing, developing, and testing mechanical components, systems, or products. This may involve conducting research, gathering data, creating CAD models, performing simulations, and assisting in prototype development.
- Engineering Analysis: You may be involved in performing engineering calculations and analysis to assess the performance, efficiency, and reliability of mechanical systems. This can include stress analysis, thermal analysis, fluid flow analysis, and vibration analysis.
- Documentation and Reporting: You will be responsible for documenting your work and preparing technical reports or presentations. This includes summarizing your findings, presenting design recommendations, and communicating your results to the engineering team or other stakeholders.
- Prototyping and Testing: You may participate in the fabrication and assembly of prototypes or test rigs. This involves working with tools and equipment, conducting experiments, collecting data, and analyzing test results to evaluate the performance and functionality of mechanical systems.
- Collaboration and Communication: You will collaborate with other engineers, technicians, and team members on various projects. Effective communication skills are essential for discussing ideas, sharing progress, and working together to solve engineering challenges.
- Continuous Learning: As an intern, you will have the opportunity to learn from experienced engineers and expand your knowledge in mechanical engineering. Actively seeking feedback, asking questions, and taking advantage of training or learning opportunities will help you develop your skills and expertise.
- Compliance and Safety: Ensuring compliance with engineering standards, codes, and safety regulations is crucial. You will need to familiarize yourself with applicable regulations and guidelines and incorporate them into your work.
- Problem Solving: Throughout your internship, you will encounter various engineering problems and challenges. Employing critical thinking and problem-solving skills will allow you to identify potential solutions, propose improvements, and contribute to the resolution of technical issues.
The following are a non-exhaustive list of qualifications for the position:
- Pursuing Bachelor’s Degree – BSME or related
- Currently pursuing degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or other related field
- Basic knowledge of SolidWorks
- Ability to utilize MS Office
- Theoretical understanding of Lean, DFMA, Six Sigma, and FMEA.
- With direction able to work independently and collaboratively in a rapidly changing environment
- Define what needs to be accomplished, consistently complete tasks. Takes responsibility for resolving a problem, regardless of where it belongs
