Environmental Health & Safety Specialist | Portage, MI

Salary Range: $67,000 - $100,000 depending on experience

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local EHS regulations, including OSHA and EPA.
• Conduct regular EHS inspections, audits, and risk assessments to identify hazards and ensure safe working conditions.
• Develop, implement, and maintain EHS programs, policies, and procedures specific to manufacturing operations.
• Investigate all EHS incidents, accidents, and near misses, determining root causes and implementing corrective actions.
• Develop and deliver EHS training programs for employees on topics such as lockout/tagout, confined space, and hazardous waste.
• Manage hazardous waste streams, ensuring proper storage, labeling, and disposal in accordance with regulatory requirements.
• Support the development and implementation of emergency response plans and procedures for the facility.

Recommended Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Occupational Safety, Engineering, or a related scientific field.
• 3-5 years of progressive EHS experience within a manufacturing or industrial setting.
• Demonstrated expertise in OSHA, EPA, and other federal/state EHS regulations and compliance.
• Proficiency in conducting EHS risk assessments, incident investigations, and developing corrective actions.
• Experience developing and delivering effective EHS training programs to diverse employee groups.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence safety culture.

Bonus Qualifications

• Professional certification such as ASP, CSP, CIH, or CHMM.
• Experience with EHS management software platforms (e.g., Intelex, Cority, Sphera).
• Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
• Internal or Lead Auditor experience for ISO 14001 and/or ISO 45001.
• Proficiency in data analysis and visualization tools for EHS metrics.
