Job Description – Machine Repair Technician (Foundry Operations)

Position Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and dependable Machine Repair Technician to support our foundry operations. The Machine Repair Technician is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining foundry machinery to ensure safe and efficient production. This role requires expertise in troubleshooting mechanical systems, repairing equipment components, and performing preventative maintenance on critical production machinery.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair a variety of foundry machines, including furnaces, molding lines, core-making machines, grinders, conveyors, presses, and automated systems.

  • Perform preventative and predictive maintenance to reduce downtime and extend equipment life.

  • Disassemble and reassemble machinery for repair or replacement of defective parts such as bearings, gears, shafts, and hydraulic components.

  • Fabricate, weld, and machine parts as necessary to complete repairs.

  • Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic system issues using proper testing tools and methods.

  • Maintain accurate documentation of maintenance work orders, repairs, and parts inventory.

  • Support machine upgrades, modifications, and installations as needed.

  • Collaborate with production and maintenance teams to ensure minimal disruption to operations.

  • Adhere to company safety policies, lockout/tagout procedures, and OSHA/foundry-specific regulations.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required; vocational/technical training in industrial maintenance or machine repair preferred.

  • Minimum 6 years of machine repair/industrial maintenance experience in a foundry, steel mill, or heavy manufacturing environment, OR completion of a recognized Journeyman program.

  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, and gear-driven equipment.

  • Skilled in welding, machining, and fabrication of replacement parts.

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and mechanical drawings.

  • Experience using hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring equipment.

  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.

  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in hot, dusty, and physically demanding foundry conditions.

Work Environment:

  • Foundry setting with exposure to molten metal, extreme heat, dust, noise, and heavy machinery.

  • Requires use of PPE including steel-toe boots, face shields, respirators, gloves, and protective clothing.

  • Must be flexible to work various shifts, overtime, weekends, and holidays as required.
