POSITION SUMMARY

The Day Camp Site Coordinator is responsible for the on-site leadership, coordination, and daily operation of the YMCA’s Day Camp program. This role ensures a high-quality, safe, engaging, and inclusive camp experience for all participants. The Site Coordinator supervises camp staff, supports program delivery, maintains positive relationships with families, and upholds YMCA policies, licensing requirements, and safety standards.

This position may require face-to-face leadership in these programs and involves early morning and evening hours.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Program Leadership & Operations

  • Lead the daily operation of assigned Day Camp site, ensuring smooth transitions and consistent program flow.
  • Implement all licensing and YMCA program standards, safety procedures, and operating practices.
  • Ensure daily camp curriculum is consistently implemented
  • Monitor program spaces for safety, cleanliness, and readiness
  • Collaborate with branch leadership and staff to schedule program spaces, activities, and resources needed for daily camp operations
  • Build and sustain strong partnerships with community organizations and vendors, representing the YMCA with professionalism and collaboration
  • Coordinate and schedule all field trips and transportation needs, ensuring logistics, safety requirements, and communication with families and staff are clearly managed.

Staff Supervision & Support

  • Supervise, coach, assign work, and support Day Camp Lead Counselors and Counselors. Appropriately address performance concerns and escalate to leadership when needed.
  • Assist in onboarding and training seasonal staff, including ongoing mentoring and performance feedback

Child Safety & Experience

  • Ensure the physical and emotional safety of all campers by following YMCA child protection policies and state licensing rules.
  • Respond to behavioral issues using positive guidance practices; communicate major concerns to families and leadership.
  • Manage incidents and accidents per YMCA protocol, ensuring prompt documentation and communication.

Family Engagement & Communication

  • Serve as the primary on-site contact for parents/guardians. Provide daily communication, resolve concerns, and maintain professional, positive relationships with families.
  • Support camper check-in and check-out processes, ensuring accurate verification and documentation.
  • Send weekly welcome emails and end-of-the-week recap communications to families, ensuring clear, timely, and engaging updates about camp activities and expectations.

Site Administration

  • Oversee supply inventory, place requests for needed materials, and maintain organized camp spaces.
  • Ensure state licensing regulations are upheld, including ratios, documentation, and staff compliance with training requirements. Maintain accurate attendance, incident, and program documentation.
  • Ensure all Summer Food Service Program (SFSP), MiLEAP, and other grant-related documentation is accurate, complete, and maintained in compliance with program and funding requirements.
  • Participate in staff meetings, training, and planning sessions as required

Perform additional duties as assigned to ensure the success of the YMCA and its mission-driven work.

COMPENSATION

$20.00 - $24.00 ; Seasonal, Full-Time (40 hours/week)

Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education : High school diploma or equivalent required. College degree preferred but not required.
  • Experience : 3 to 6 months’ experience working with youth in a camp, childcare, education, or recreation setting. Prior leadership experience preferred.
  • Proven Expertise: Ability to manage multiple priorities, remain calm under pressure, and adapt to changing environments. Strong communication, relationship-building, and problem-solving skills required.
  • Mission-Driven Leadership : Ability to interact with people of all ethnic backgrounds, ages and lifestyles.

Must be 21 years of age or older. Must successfully pass all required background screenings and experience and/or education requirements to be eligible for placement on program licenses.

CERTIFICATES & LICENSES

  • Complete required trainings as specified in Michigan State Licensing for Childcare Centers
  • Blood Borne Pathogen training
  • CPR Certification required within the first 60 days
  • First Aid Certification required within the first 60 days
  • State of Michigan criminal background clearance (ICHAT)
  • Fingerprinting

The employee frequently is required to stand. The employee is occasionally required to walk, climb, or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Employee will regularly be required to work outdoors and will be exposed to outside weather conditions.
