## Skating Director — Job Description

Reports to: General Manager

Position Summary

Responsible for organizing, developing, and promoting year‑round Learn to Skate and figure skating programming. Oversees instruction, events, enrollment, and staff development to ensure high-quality skater experiences.

Key Responsibilities

- **Program Management:** Plan, organize, conduct, and evaluate a comprehensive Learn to Skate program serving beginner figure skaters and hockey skaters.

- **Staff Recruitment & Scheduling:** Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise instructors and skater aides; approve employee timecards and weekly work schedules.

- **Enrollment & Records:** Maintain accurate enrollment and participant records for all skating programs.

- **Freestyle & Policies:** Organize, monitor, and maintain freestyle sessions; develop and enforce policies and procedures for skaters, instructors, and parents.

- **Events & Activities:** Organize and promote skating shows, competitions, summer camps, test sessions, and special figure-skating events. Coordinate overlapping events with the Hockey Director and General Manager.

- **Marketing Collaboration:** Work with the General Manager and Marketing Manager on brochures, flyers, social media, and advertising for skating programs.

- **Documentation:** Update instructor manuals and job descriptions; maintain training materials.

- **Staff Development:** Conduct employee staff meetings and training sessions; support professional growth and keep current with skating community trends.

- **Community Engagement:** Participate in community outreach, schools, and local organizations to promote programs.

- **Facility Collaboration:** Assist other facility supervisors and managers with planning and delivering complementary classes and workshops.

- **Other Duties:** Perform additional tasks as assigned by the General Manager.

Qualifications

- Experience in figure skating instruction, Learn to Skate programs, or similar youth sports instruction.

- Proven ability to recruit, train, and manage instructors and program staff.

- Strong organizational and communication skills; comfortable coordinating events and working with marketing.

- Knowledge of freestyle session operations and skating testing/show procedures.

- Commitment to professional development and community engagement.

Preferred

- Coaching certifications or skating instructor credentials.

- Prior event planning experience in a skating or recreational facility.

Working Conditions

- On-site at the skating facility with evening and weekend hours required for classes, practices, and events.

- Regular interaction with skaters, parents, staff, and community partners.

Compensation

- hourly based on experience and based on the right candidate
