Cardiac Stepdown RN Job Details

• Location: Dayton, Ohio (45409) – Ohio nursing jobs
• Unit: Cardiac Stepdown Unit – ME6 Medical Inpatient
• Employment Type: Travel RN (locum tenens)
• Contract Length: 16-20 weeks (13-week contracts accepted)
• Shift: 12-hour nights (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
• Weekly Hours: 36 or 48 (overtime paid after 48 hours for 48-hour contracts)
• Shifts per week: 3 or 4, depending on contract
• Estimated Weekly Salary: $1950 - $2000
• Start Date: October 6, 2025
• End Date: February 23, 2026
• Patient Ratio: Target 1:4; may be up to 1:5-6
• Weekend/Holiday: Every other weekend and holiday required
• Floating: May float to other campuses within 15 miles

Registered Nurse Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (any state; compact RN license accepted)
• Minimum 1.5 years of recent cardiac stepdown or progressive care nursing experience (Level 1 or 2 trauma experience preferred)
• EPIC EMR charting experience required
• BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Experience with stable chronic ventilators
• Must pass online EKG/telemetry competency assessment before start
• IV start experience preferred
• Previous travel nursing experience preferred
• Ability to work every other weekend and holiday
• Flu vaccine required (medical/religious exemptions considered)
• No prior license action

Cardiac Stepdown RN Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality nursing care to cardiac stepdown patients (adolescents, adults, geriatrics)
• Monitor and manage cardiac telemetry, ventilators, and complex drips (cardiac, vasoactive, insulin, heparin, nitro)
• Perform IV starts, wound care, and manage central/PICC lines, chest tubes, and feeding tubes
• Interpret arterial blood gases and cardiac dysrhythmias
• Administer blood products and provide procedural sedation as needed
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams (IV, PT, RT, pharmacy, social services, rapid response)
• Float to other nursing units/campuses as assigned, supporting clinical teams
• Document patient care using EPIC EMR system
• Participate in orientation and complete required training modules
