Position Summary:

A community-based mental health organization in Southgate, MI is seeking a compassionate and skilled Intake Therapist with a Master's Degree in Social Work. The Intake Therapist will be responsible for conducting comprehensive assessments with individuals of all ages to determine service eligibility and match clients with the most appropriate supports and treatment options. Services are provided onsite through scheduled appointments and walk-ins.

Work Schedule:

  • Standard Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

  • Flexibility Required: Occasional evening or weekend hours

  • Setting: In-office

  • Travel: Reimbursed at $0.64 per mile when using a personal vehicle

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct intake assessments to evaluate mental health needs, service eligibility, and client preferences

  • Complete intake documentation within 48 hours of service

  • Gather relevant information from multiple sources including client reports, family input, medical and treatment records

  • Use motivational interviewing techniques to support client engagement

  • Provide clients and families with information about available services and supports

  • Initiate the person-centered planning process in alignment with Medicaid guidelines and best practices

  • Create individualized Safety Plans when appropriate

  • Refer clients for further evaluations such as psychological testing when needed

  • Recommend participation in therapeutic groups and support services

  • Attend clinical supervision, case consultations, and team meetings

  • Document all services and communications accurately and promptly

  • Meet expected productivity and documentation timeframes

  • Maintain state licensure and complete at least 25 hours of job-specific training annually

  • Follow professional ethics, boundaries, and agency procedures

Qualifications:

  • Education: Master’s Degree in Social Work (MSW) required

  • Licensure: Must hold a valid LMSW or LLMSW license in the State of Michigan

  • Experience: Prior experience with intake assessments, motivational interviewing, and mental health services preferred

  • Skills: Strong interpersonal, organizational, and documentation abilities
