Tool & Die Operator

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Tool & Die Operator to join our team in Sturgis, Michigan. This position requires strong technical expertise in metal stamping die design and manufacturing, along with the operational ability to support new product development from concept through production.

The ideal candidate will have experience with single-hit and progressive stamping dies, CAD/CAM software, CNC programming, and cross-functional collaboration within a manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Responsibilities

· Identify opportunities that align with the company’s manufacturing capabilities

· Develop and document processes required to produce new products

· Communicate with customers as needed to support quoting of new components

· Review customer purchase orders to ensure alignment with approved quotes

· Share process plans and technical details with Quality, Purchasing, Accounting, Engineering, and Ownership

· Provide knowledge and guidance regarding material selection, coating processes, and finishing methods

Technical Responsibilities

· Design and develop metal stamping dies (single-hit and progressive dies)

· Calculate blank sizes using bend formulas and develop flat blank layouts

· Create and interpret drawings for tooling, special machines, and fixtures

· Work with drawing formats including:

o .DWG

o MC7

o STEP Files

o IGES Files

· Utilize engineering software such as:

o AutoCAD

o Mastercam

o SolidWorks (knowledge preferred)

· Develop and interpret:

o Electrical drawings

o Hydraulic drawings

o Pneumatic drawings

o CNC programming

o Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC)

· Apply geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) principles

· Understand tolerances, fits (press and slip), thread sizes, locators, and fasteners

· Maintain organized digital documentation using Word, Excel, Access, and file management systems

· Demonstrate strong mathematical skills to support design and problem-solving

Qualifications

· 5+ years of experience in Tool & Die or metal stamping manufacturing

· Experience designing and building stamping dies (single-hit and progressive)

· Strong knowledge of tooling standards and die development

· Experience with CAD/CAM software (AutoCAD and Mastercam required; SolidWorks a plus)

· CNC programming knowledge

· Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings and technical specifications

· Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy

· Excellent communication and teamwork skills
