Volunteer Services Manager - Lakeshore Habitat for Humanity

The Volunteer Services Manager role is vital to the successful operation of Lakeshore Habitat for Humanity. The Volunteer Services Manager is responsible for recruiting, scheduling, and coordinating corporate groups, church groups, and individual volunteers. This position drives engagement for construction, ReStore, events, and office needs, helping to fill all volunteer roles essential to Lakeshore Habitat for Humanity’s mission. The Volunteer Services Manager will identify challenges, problems, and opportunities within volunteer and community engagement areas, assess trends and best practices, and recommend or develop processes, programs, and resources to achieve goals. The role also includes stewarding and retaining volunteers to ensure long-term engagement. This position exercises leadership by performing all duties in alignment with Christian values and professional standards. Volunteer Services Manager primary duties may include: Volunteer Scheduling & Coordination
  • Schedule all volunteers to ensure adequate coverage for construction sites and the ReStore.
  • Coordinate build site preparations and serve as lead staff for volunteer-related activities.
  • Respond daily to inquiries from individuals and groups regarding volunteer opportunities.
Training & Orientation
  • Develop and deliver internal training to foster the Lakeshore Habitat volunteer culture.
  • Orient and train all volunteers; create and update volunteer policies and procedures.
  • Work with the ReStore team to support volunteer program development and recruitment.
Recruitment & Retention
  • Recruit new volunteers through phone calls, business visits, and outreach to community groups.
  • Build and implement recruitment and retention plans with year-over-year tracking.
  • Cultivate relationships with volunteer groups and individuals by being on-site regularly to welcome and engage them.
Community Engagement & Event Support
  • Drive community engagement by proactively strategizing participation in community events.
  • Develop new partnerships to deepen community involvement with Lakeshore Habitat.
  • Assist with the planning, coordination, and execution of affiliate and volunteer focused events to promote Lakeshore Habitat’s mission.
Program Management, Data & Recognition
  • Oversee and maintain the volunteer CRM, ensuring accurate data entry, reporting, and analysis.
  • Track liability forms, volunteer hours, safety documentation, and quality assurance records.
  • Maintain and manage the volunteer recognition program.
Our idea candidate would have most of the following experiences and qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, business or communications or related field or 2+ years of professional experience in volunteer or community engagement.
  • Demonstrated experience in building strong long-term community, volunteer, and financial connections, preferably in the Lakeshore Habitat Service Area (Ottawa, Allegan and Van Buren Counties).
  • Nonprofit experience preferred.
  • Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills.
  • Proven leadership and strategic planning abilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
  • Analytical problem-solver with sound decision-making skills.
  • Skilled in motivating, mentoring, and engaging in diverse groups.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • High level of commitment to the “people” side of the Habitat mission.
Additional Information: This position will require local travel along the lakeshore (Ottawa, Allegan, and Van Buren counties), as well as evening or weekend hours for special events.
