Quality Inspector

Kentwood, MI

Job Title: Quality Inspector

Job Description

This first-shift Quality Inspector role runs from 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, and focuses on ensuring the highest standards of precision and quality for medical components on the production floor. You perform thorough dimensional and visual inspections of parts at multiple stages, verifying that each product meets strict customer requirements and is ready for use in medical applications.

Responsibilities

  • Perform incoming, in-process, and final inspections of medical parts on the production floor to ensure compliance with customer quality requirements.
  • Inspect parts at least twice before they leave the building, including initial checks and final inspection, to confirm dimensional accuracy and overall appearance.
  • Use calipers, micrometers, gauges, vision systems, optical comparators, Keyence equipment, and microscopes to measure and verify tight tolerances.
  • Conduct detailed visual inspections to ensure parts are free from defects and meet aesthetic standards appropriate for medical use.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings to understand product specifications and inspection criteria.
  • Apply basic math skills and decimal point placement knowledge to interpret measurements and determine conformance to specifications.
  • Determine whether products should be accepted, rejected, or placed on hold based on inspection results and documented criteria.
  • Prepare, review, and approve clear and accurate technical documentation related to inspection findings and quality status.
  • Work through assigned inspection jobs in designated areas, handling varying lot sizes that can range from hundreds to thousands of pieces.
  • Maintain consistent productivity and focus throughout the entire shift while performing repetitive inspections with high attention to detail.
  • Use magnifiers and optical devices to conduct close visual inspections and adjust focus as needed to examine fine features.
  • Follow quality control and quality assurance procedures, supporting continuous improvement and lean manufacturing practices where applicable.
  • Adhere to all safety guidelines, including use of appropriate footwear and eye protection, while working on the production floor.

Essential Skills

  • Hands-on experience using micrometers, calipers, gauges, and other precision measuring instruments for quality inspection.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings accurately.
  • Strong basic math skills, including a confident understanding of decimal point placement for measurement interpretation.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform visual inspections and identify defects on small, detailed components.
  • Capability to use microscopes, magnifiers, optical comparators, and vision systems for detailed inspection work.
  • Specific vision abilities, including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus on optical devices.
  • Ability to prepare, review, and approve technical documentation with clear and accurate written communication.
  • Physical ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods while performing inspections.
  • Ability to lift 20 pounds or more as needed during inspection activities.
  • Prior knowledge or experience in quality control inspection, particularly in a production or manufacturing environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working with tight tolerances and precision measurement in a manufacturing setting.
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Experience conducting incoming, in-process, and final inspections in a production environment.
  • Experience in quality control, quality assurance, or quality inspection of medical or similarly high-precision products.
  • Comfort working with large quantities of parts, including jobs ranging from hundreds to thousands of pieces per run.
  • Ability to work independently in designated inspection areas while maintaining high accuracy and throughput.

Why Work Here?

You join a production environment that values precision, consistency, and quality, offering the opportunity to contribute directly to products used in critical medical applications. The role provides stable first-shift hours, a structured workflow with clearly designated inspection areas, and access to modern inspection technologies and tools. You work in a culture that emphasizes attention to detail, continuous improvement, and safety, while supporting professional growth in quality and manufacturing disciplines.

Work Environment

The role is based on the production floor in designated inspection areas, so parts are routed directly to you without needing to search through inventory. Workloads vary by job, with some inspections involving around 500 pieces and others up to 2,000 pieces, and you are expected to remain engaged and productive throughout the entire shift from 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. The environment is focused on precision and quality, using equipment such as calipers, micrometers, gauges, vision systems, CMM (with training available), optical comparators, Keyence systems, microscopes, and magnifiers. You may sit or stand for extended periods while inspecting parts and occasionally lift items weighing 20 pounds or more. The dress code requires leather uppers with non-slip soles; safety shoes are not required. Eye protection is mandatory, and safety glasses are provided, though you may wear your own prescription glasses if preferred
