Scrap Yard Supervisor
A large, high-volume recycling and scrap operation in Detroit is seeking an experienced Yard Supervisor to lead production teams in a fast-paced, unionized manufacturing environment. This facility spans 40+ acres and is one of the largest operations of its kind in the region.
Schedule
- Monday–Friday: 6:00 AM – 4:00 PM
- Overtime as needed (may extend to 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM)
- Occasional Saturday half-days based on workload
Compensation & Benefits
- $28–$32.00/hour (based on experience)
- Benefits available after 90 days

Position Overview
The Operations Supervisor serves as the first level of leadership within the facility, overseeing day-to-day plant operations and managing small work teams in a high-volume production environment.
This role is responsible for organizing workflow, ensuring safety compliance, driving efficiency, and leading teams to meet production goals while maintaining strong labor relations.
You will oversee approximately 50 employees overall (with direct oversight of smaller teams of 10–20 at a time; approximately 15 in the yard).
Key Responsibilities
- Assign and schedule daily tasks to meet production goals
- Oversee plant operations and yard activities
- Ensure materials, equipment, and tools are available and operational
- Maintain organized yard, tools, and supplies
- Create and adjust production schedules
- Estimate labor requirements for job assignments
- Maintain time and production records (Time Clock Plus experience preferred)
- Coordinate workflow between departments
- Inspect finished product to verify standards
- Track absenteeism and timekeeping
- Promote and enforce safety, environmental, and quality standards
- Identify efficiency improvements and reduce waste
- Facilitate employee development and training
- Prepare production and performance reports
Top Requirements
- Experience in the scrap/recycling industry (required)
- Heavy equipment knowledge/experience
- Proven leadership experience in manufacturing or industrial settings
- Ability to reliably start at 6:00 AM
- Experience working in a unionized environment preferred
Additional Requirements
- Comfortable working outdoors in a scrapyard environment
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple teams in a fast-paced setting
- Must pass hair follicle drug screen (no THC)
