Loving Care Animal Clinic
Where Your Skills Matter

Licensed  Veterinary Technician
Reports to: Practice Manager and Doctor

At Loving Care Animal Clinic , we believe licensed veterinary technicians are highly trained medical professionals who should be empowered to practice to the full extent of their education, training, and legal scope. If you’re looking for a practice where your judgment, technical skills, and professional contribution are trusted and respected, we’d love to meet you.

Our technicians are integral members of the medical team. You’ll do far more than restrain patients and draw blood, you’ll be encouraged to think critically, contribute to case management, and use the full breadth of your training every day.

LVTs are trusted to carry out delegated clinical responsibilities with meaningful professional autonomy, consistent with Michigan law, hospital protocols, and collaboration with the veterinarian. Our veterinarians retain responsibility for diagnosing disease, prescribing medications, performing surgery, and providing prognoses.

Our clinic values collaboration, receptiveness to new ideas, learning, and mutual respect. We care deeply about good medicine, but we also care about good people. We are seeking someone who is kind, humble, dependable, accountable, and genuinely invested in making their teammates’ days better. Strong clinical skills matter; being a respectful, supportive team player matters just as much.

What You’ll Do

  • Perform patient assessments and case preparation: obtain complete histories and clinical data, identify and document concerns, initiate approved diagnostics and basic-care protocols, and present cases to the veterinarian for collaborative prioritization and medical direction.
  • Triage sick and injured pets by phone and upon arrival, including urgent-care and limited emergencies.
  • Conduct outpatient LVT appointments.
  • Perform and manage in-house and reference laboratory diagnostics, including cytology preparation.
  • Apply and continue developing advanced technical skills appropriate to your training and experience, including wellness care assessments, advanced anesthesia monitoring, surgical assisting, blood-product support, and comprehensive client education consistent with Michigan law, hospital protocols, and veterinarian direction.
  • Perform radiology, dentistry, anesthesia induction, monitoring and recovery, nursing care, and client education.
  • Assist with and help lead surgical and dental procedures while providing exceptional perioperative patient care.
  • Use safe restraint techniques in accordance with standard protocols.
  • Administer treatments and medications as directed by the veterinarian; fill and manage prescriptions, including in-house and online pharmacy requests.
  • Educate clients on preventive care, treatment plans, nutrition, medication administration, and home care.
  • Collaborate closely with veterinarians to provide outstanding patient outcomes.
  • Train, support, and help develop Veterinary Assistants, sharing knowledge that strengthens team confidence and efficiency .

What We’re Looking For

  • A current, valid Michigan Licensed Veterinary Technician license is required to hold the LVT position and title.
  • Graduate of an accredited Veterinary Technician program with an Associate or Bachelor degree.
  • One year of experience in an LVT role preferred.
  • Understanding of preventive medicine, including examinations, laboratory testing, vaccinations, and disease complexes.
  • Surgery induction, monitoring, and recovery experience.
  • A self-motivated, professional, friendly, energetic, dependable, and trustworthy team player who enjoys problem-solving and taking initiative.
  • Strong communication skills with clients, doctors, management, hospital personnel, specialists, consulting professionals, and teammates.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize effectively, maintain attention to detail, and stay composed in a fast-paced environment.
  • A commitment to high-quality medicine, compassionate care, continual learning, and completing continuing education in veterinary medicine.
  • Sound analytical thinking, integrity, personal responsibility, accountability, and confidentiality.
  • The ability to multitask and work under pressure while maintaining composure.
  • A kind, hardworking, humble colleague who contributes positively to a collaborative workplace.

Licensure and Position Title

Applicants with a current, valid Michigan Veterinary Technician license will hold the title of Licensed Veterinary Technician .

Applicants whose license is not currently active will hold the title of Veterinary Nurse . Applicants who have previously been licensed are welcome to apply, and Loving Care Animal Clinic may be able to provide financial assistance with the license-reinstatement process.
