Position Summary
Instructional faculty has the responsibility of creating an innovative learning environment both inside and outside the classroom, and to inspire success and excellence in student learning.

Examples of Duties

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Teach classroom, lab, and clinical components of assigned nursing and allied health courses.
  2. Collaboratively develop and implement a concept-based course plan (syllabus) in a team-based learning format.
  3. Participate in scheduled academic program reviews, including assessment of student learning at the course, program, and institutional level using feedback to make improvements.
  4. Make recommendations for textbooks and instructional resources to the faculty team.
  5. Facilitate student learning by providing a safe and supportive environment and encouraging active student participation.
  6. Demonstrate instructional competence and expertise in assigned subject matter.
  7. Use innovative instructional strategies and emerging technologies to enhance learning.
  8. Facilitate distance education delivery and provide support to outreach students.
  9. Apply knowledge of diverse communities and skill sets to customize effective teaching methods.
  10. Assess student learning and performance, and provide formative feedback in a timely manner.
  11. Maintain accurate and complete course records, relay student engagement information, and enter final grades in accordance within established deadlines.
  12. Foster effective working relationships with the healthcare team to provide a comprehensive and safe environment for students’ clinical learning experiences.
  13. Work with clinical preceptors to develop an instructional plan outlining clinical learning experiences, and to assess students’ clinical performance.
  14. Function as a role model for professional nursing and communicate this role to students.
  15. Share pertinent student information with colleagues, including but not limited to progress reports, attendance records, and academic difficulty issues.
  16. Assist students with degree planning and conduct regularly scheduled advisement sessions to discuss progress toward achieving learning outcomes.
  17. Provide a workload schedule showing instructional and office hours.
  18. Oversee the efficient use of supplies and equipment in the campus lab and clinical area; make purchase recommendations to the nursing director.
  19. Assist with positive program promotion and recruitment.
  20. Attend program advisory board and college meetings as required.
  21. Fulfill responsibilities in accordance with institutional policies and procedures in a professional manner.
  22. Assume responsibility for professional development, service to the college, and other reasonably related duties as needed.

Typical Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Must submit an approved education plan and complete a graduate degree in nursing within five years of hire.

Experience

  • Three years of nursing experience with a strong preference for recent work in direct patient care.

Licenses/Certifications

  • Unencumbered license to practice professional nursing in the State of Wyoming, or the ability to obtain licensure within two months of hire.
  • Possess and maintain a valid State of Wyoming driver’s license, or ability to obtain Wyoming driver’s license within 30 days of hire.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support Instructor Certification, or the ability to complete training requirements upon hire.

Desired Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in nursing from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
  • Instructional experience in a college setting.

Clinical Record Requirements
Immunizations

  • TB test, MMR, hepatitis B, varicella, Tdap, and seasonal influenza. Central Wyoming College adheres to Centers for Disease Control guidelines and recommendations for immunizations for healthcare providers. Additionally, nursing faculty must comply with clinical agency regulations.
  • Criminal background check from the designated company upon hire.
  • Urine drug screen from the designated company upon hire.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  1. Strong working knowledge of subject area taught.
  2. Instructional competence, including knowledge of and experience in professional nursing.
  3. Knowledge of curriculum development and assessment.
  4. Knowledge of instructional strategies and technologies to enhance student engagement and attainment of learning outcomes.
  5. Commitment to exploring nontraditional approaches to education in a community college environment.
  6. Demonstration of excellent oral and written communication skills.
  7. Ability to use personal computer software, preferably Microsoft applications.
  8. Ability to function independently and as a member of a team.
  9. Ability to organize, prioritize, and follow multiple projects and tasks through to completion within established deadlines.
  10. Ability to effectively identify and solve problems.
  11. Ability to handle sensitive information and maintain strict confidentiality.
  12. Ability to maintain professional relationships with students, colleagues, supervisors, and clinical agency personnel.
  13. Ability to relate to a diverse student population in a professional and helpful manner.
  14. Ability to objectively evaluate student progress.
  15. Working knowledge of classroom and laboratory equipment and software, to include the learning management system utilized by the college.

Level of Supervision

  • Work is performed under the supervision of the CWC Nursing Director. Plans own time to meet predetermined schedules. Follows instructions and directions, and makes recommendations for process improvement. Has some freedom of choice in approach to problems, methods of operation, and goal-setting.

Work Environment

Equipment Used

  • Classroom and laboratory technologies o Healthcare equipment routinely used to provide patient care in an acute care setting

Physical Requirements

  • Standing and sitting for extended periods of time, and light lifting

Environmental Conditions

  • Work is primarily performed in classroom and clinical settings with appropriate climate controls. Work environment may lead to exposure to human biohazardous waste, including blood and bodily fluid. Early morning, late evening, and possible weekend hours may be scheduled. Travel to clinical sites is required.
