Staff Software Architect- Quality

Work Arrangement:
Hybrid: Position requires that the employee be onsite a minimum of three (3) days each week (Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays). You will be based out of Milford Proving Grounds.
Relocation: This position does not offer relocation benefits. All relocation would be at the expense of the candidate for this position.
The Role:
We are seeking a strategic and technically skilled Staff Software Quality Architect to lead and elevate software quality initiatives across VMEC, with a focus on scalable CI systems and built-in quality practices for embedded platforms.
What You'll Do:
You will serve as a technical leader and advocate for built-in quality excellence, collaborating across Embedded Platform Engineering and VMEC to deliver scalable, efficient, and user-centric CI systems.
This role offers the opportunity to shape the future of software quality in automotive systems, influence enterprise-wide engineering practices, and drive innovation in embedded platform development.
Key Responsibilities:
Technical Leadership
Architect and evolve CI verification/validation strategies for VMEC.
Design robust testing strategies utilizing executable specifications for mechatronic systems
Lead performance optimization of CI systems, focusing on build speed, mean time to recover (MTTR) and developer experience.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Align CI system development with VMEC user requirements and SDV Mechatronic Platform architecture.
Partner with GM Tools teams to define and develop DevOps tools, pipelines, and automation.
Ensure CI systems align with CALMR principles and support BIQ practices like Behavior-Driven Development (BDD), Test-Driven Development (TDD), and continuous delivery
Communication & Advocacy
Represent the voice of the VMEC user community in tool forums and development discussions.
Communicate CI vision, roadmap, and improvement opportunities to leadership and stakeholders.
Champion a quality-first mindset and advocate for scalable, testable, and maintainable embedded software practices across teams.
Continuous Improvement & Growth
Stay current with emerging CI/CD technologies and share insights with tools teams and business users.
Proactively identify and drive implementation of enhancements to CI systems and testing processes.
Required Qualification:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
8+ years of experience in software engineering or quality architecture.
Strong proficiency in Python and C/C++, with experience in embedded software development.
Hands-on experience with CI/CD tools and frameworks such as GitHub Actions, Jenkins, and Docker.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
What Gives You a Competitive
MS in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer
Science
Demonstrated experience with end-to-end automotive Software testing principles, including integration, system, and acceptance testing.
Deep understanding of applying continuous integration applied within embedded software development environments.
Knowledge of automotive safety standards (e.g., ISO26262, ASPICE).
Exposure to Agile methodologies and large-scale agile frameworks (e.g., SAFe).
Experience debugging complex production systems and leading root cause analysis.
