Stylist In Training

The Stylist in Training role is a temporary, up to 90-day position designed for individuals who are finishing cosmetology school or awaiting licensure. This role allows you to learn salon operations, guest service standards, and professional expectations while preparing for a potential promotion to Stylist once licensed.

What You’ll Do:

As a Stylist in Training, you will:

• Learn day-to-day salon operations by observing experienced stylists and managers.
• Gain an understanding of guest flow, service standards, and business fundamentals.
• Greet guests, assist with check-in, and answer phones professionally.
• Provide excellent customer service across all points of communication.
• Maintain salon cleanliness and organization.
• Follow all safety, sanitation, and operational standards.

While this role focuses on learning and support, it is an important part of the guest experience and salon success.

Promotion to Stylist:

As a Stylist in Training, you may be eligible for promotion to a Stylist position once you receive your cosmetology license.

Promotion is not automatic. To be considered, you must:

• Obtain a valid cosmetology license.
• Demonstrate readiness to perform services.
• Consistently meet performance, professionalism, and attendance expectations.
• Demonstrate Great Clips values, including honesty, accountability, integrity, and respect.

You must formally apply for the Stylist position to be considered for promotion.

We’d Love to Hear From You If You:

• Are graduating from an accredited cosmetology program or will obtain licensure within 90 days of hire.
• Have strong time management and good judgment.
• Communicate effectively with guests, coworkers, and management.
• Are comfortable using technology such as point-of-sale systems and basic data entry.
• Are able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift up to 10 lbs regularly and up to 25 lbs occasionally for product stocking.
• Ability to stand for extended periods throughout the workday.
• Ability to read, write, and perform basic math.
• Availability to attend required meetings and training sessions, including occasional travel.
