JOB SUMMARY
The Maintenance Manager is responsible for creating, executing and training preventative maintenance programs. The Maintenance Manager actively participates in the research and development of new products, keeping equipment and buildings in good working order, and any new processes that will support the Hortech business. The Maintenance Manager is responsible for carrying out all MIOSHA and OSHA safety rules and procedures. He/She supervises a small team of 3-4 maintenance technicians.
He/She, as the Maintenance Manager, is service minded and values working collaboratively as a team, typically on-site, with a traditional Monday- Friday workweek so as to be available to, responsive and supportive of colleagues and customers.
RESPONSIBILTIES
- Oversees and directs the maintenance of our physical facility through preventative maintenance and immediate repairs.
- Works proactively using efficient, effective, innovative, most up-to-date methods to keep equipment and facility ready for the changes of seasons.
- At all times, the maintenance manager is expected to work toward maximizing his or her own efficiency, to complete the daily, weekly, and monthly schedules on time, and to work toward enhancing the effectiveness and profitability of Hortech.
- On call for emergencies outside of normal business hours and occasionally is required to travel off-site.
- Able to be cleared for EPS security list for security alarm calls.
- Manages construction projects and greenhouse covering.
- Works pro-actively to have our equipment and facility ready for season changes.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS
- Should hold an Associate’s degree in maintenance management or should have commensurate education and experience.
- Valid Michigan Nurseryman’s certification is helpful.
- Valid Michigan Driver’s License required, and eligible for company motor vehicle insurance.
- Must be knowledgeable of and able to implement OSHA and MIOSHA safety rules and procedures that pertain to the facility and staff.
- Must have knowledge of, and experience with repair of irrigation, heating and ventilation, and electrical systems.
- Accomplished in vehicle and grounds maintenance.
- Have a thorough understanding of Lean Systems, and work to reduce waste and improve efficiencies.
- Understands, embraces, implements and effectively leads concepts of Lean Systems.
- Must be mechanically inclined.
- The maintenance manager must be committed to horticultural maintenance management and must have a strong interest in continuing education.

- Must be knowledgeable of standard business practices as well as personnel management.
- Must be interested in learning and developing specific knowledge as it relates to our product line, its aftercare, and how it is affected by and interrelated with our physical facility.
