Overview
The Children’s Ministry Director provides leadership, vision, and coordination for the nursery and children’s ministry at Immanuel Community Reformed Church. This role exists to help children encounter the love of God, grow in faith, and experience the church as a safe, welcoming, and joyful community. The Director will oversee all aspects of children’s ministry from nursery through elementary-aged children, equip and support volunteers, and lead the children’s ministry department in adapting to Immanuel’s evolving ministry context while engaging families and children in the surrounding community.
Primary Responsibilities Ministry Leadership & Vision
- Provide overall leadership, vision, and direction for nursery, children’s ministry, and children’s participation in worship.
- Oversee the Children's Ministry Team
- Develop and implement a Christ-centered children’s ministry vision that aligns with the mission, values, and theological commitments of Immanuel Community Reformed Church.
- Lead the children’s ministry department in adapting programs, structures, and approaches to meet the needs of a changing church and community context.
Nursery, Children’s Ministry & Worship
- Oversee the nursery ministry, ensuring it is safe, well-staffed, welcoming, and developmentally appropriate.
- Plan, coordinate, and support children’s ministry programming, including children’s worship experiences and opportunities for intergenerational participation.
- Select, implement, and evaluate curriculum that supports spiritual formation and is consistent with the church’s theological framework.
Volunteer Recruitment, Training & Care
- Recruit, train, schedule, and support volunteers for nursery and children’s ministry.
- Equip volunteers with clear expectations, practical tools, and ongoing encouragement to serve effectively and sustainably.
- Foster a healthy team culture marked by trust, collaboration, spiritual growth, and shared ownership of ministry.
Community Engagement & Outreach
- Plan and lead children’s ministry events designed to engage families and reach children in the surrounding community.
- Build relational connections with parents, caregivers, and families both within the church and beyond its walls.
- Explore and implement creative outreach opportunities that reflect Immanuel’s mission and neighborhood context.
Administration & Collaboration
- Maintain and implement child safety policies and procedures for children’s ministry and volunteers.
- Communicate regularly with parents, volunteers, and church leadership regarding ministry vision, logistics, and needs.
- Collaborate with the Pastor, staff, and ministry teams to support intergenerational discipleship and the life of the congregation.
- Manage children’s ministry resources and supplies within an approved budget.
Skills & CompetenciesGeneral Ministry & Leadership Skills
- Ability to lead engaging, age-appropriate, and spiritually formative children’s ministry environments.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with children, parents, volunteers, and staff.
- Organizational and administrative competence, including planning, scheduling, and follow-through.
- Sound judgment and attention to detail regarding child safety, best practices, and policies.
- Collaborative leadership style with the ability to work well within a team-oriented church culture.
Volunteer Recruitment & Equipping
- Demonstrated ability to recruit, invite, and inspire volunteers to serve in children’s ministry.
- Skill in training, coaching, and equipping volunteers with confidence, clarity, and encouragement.
- Ability to recognize, develop, and empower the gifts of others.
- Pastoral sensitivity and relational awareness in caring for and supporting volunteer leaders.
Adaptability & Resilience
- Capacity to lead through change with flexibility, humility, and wisdom.
- Willingness to evaluate, adjust, and reimagine ministry models in response to shifting church and community needs.
- Emotional and spiritual resilience in the face of challenges, maintaining hope, clarity, and forward momentum.

Qualifications
- A growing and vibrant faith in Jesus Christ and a passion for helping children grow spiritually.
- Experience working with children and volunteers in a church or ministry setting (paid or volunteer).
- Strong relational, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Alignment with the mission, values, and beliefs of Immanuel Community Reformed Church.
Preferred (but not required)
- Formal training in ministry, education, child development, or a related field.
- Experience leading children’s worship or intergenerational ministry.
- Familiarity with the Reformed tradition.
Reporting Relationship
Reports to the Lead Pastor
Pay: $17,000.00 - $30,000.00 per year
