POSITION: Middle School PE and/or Health Teacher

LOCATION: Donald L. Pavlik Middle School

REPORTS TO: Jennifer Huntoon, Building Principal

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education

Must be highly qualified to teach 6th – 8th grade Health

Must hold one of the following endorsements:

MA (Health)

MX (Health, PE, Recreation and Dance)

KH (Family and Consumer Sciences)

Job Requirements, Knowledge, and Skills:
A successful candidate will possess:

• Successful experience working with upper elementary/middle level age students
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Knowledge of content expectations pertinent to the grade level and subject areas taught
• Knowledge of developmentally appropriate instructional techniques for adolescents
• Knowledge of Michigan Content Standards for Health Education as well as state mandated standards for teaching communicable disease and sex education.
• Knowledge of curriculum design as it pertains to health education including creating lessons that meet the needs of all learners

A successful candidate will be able to:

• Relate to and instruct students in large groups, small groups, and individualized settings
• Develop and use strategies to improve student achievement in all core content areas
• Use formative and summative assessments to guide instruction
• Use the Responsible Thinking Process for student discipline
• Contribute to a professional learning team
• Participate in state mandated Sex Education Advisory Board activities
• Integrate technology into lesson planning, gathering assessment data, and in required record keeping in an effective and efficient manner
• Communicate in an effective and professional manner with parents, staff, administration and community members
• Keep accurate and up to date student records including grades, attendance and parent communications

COMPENSATION: Alma Public Schools Salary Schedule A
