Lead the Floor: A Day in the Life

Your day starts with the production board. You review output, check job priorities, and assign work orders across a team of skilled welders and fabricators. You make sure every part flows to schedule, stays within budget, and matches customer blueprints and specifications aligned to aerospace-quality expectations.

On the floor, you coach hands-on—demonstrating best practices in MIG and TIG welding on steel, aluminum, stainless, and Invar 36. You oversee bending and bump forming, and you guide operators on safe, precise press/press-brake operations. When the line needs support, you jump in to weld, form, or fit materials yourself.

As a people leader, you hire and onboard new team members, train to standards, and maintain the welding matrix and related certification paperwork. You reinforce a clean, orderly, and safe shop—then close the loop by reviewing progress against timelines and preparing the next day’s plan.

Core Responsibilities

• Oversee fabrication processes end-to-end; assign work and monitor production output.
• Keep jobs on schedule and within budget while meeting customer specifications.
• Train employees on multiple welding processes and fabrication techniques.
• Recruit, hire, and develop new team members.
• Perform welding, bending, and bump forming as needed to support throughput.
• Maintain the welding matrix and required certification documentation.
• Ensure the fabrication shop is clean, organized, and audit-ready.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as required or requested.

Key Competencies

• Operate a torch and saw confidently and safely.
• Deep knowledge of materials and applicable fabrication/welding methods.
• Read and work directly from blueprints.
• Excel in a fast-paced production environment and hit timelines.
• Proficiency in MIG and TIG welding on aluminum and steel.

Supervisory Responsibility

Yes — you will directly supervise and develop fabrication team members.

Work Environment

Frequent exposure to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibration. Noise levels can be loud.

Physical Demands

Occasional sitting, climbing/balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Frequently lift/move up to 50 lbs; occasionally up to 100 lbs. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment.

Schedule

Full-time, Monday–Friday. Shifts may be 8, 9, 10, or 11 hours. Saturday work from 6:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. as needed.

Required Education & Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of a welding certificate program from a college or technical school.

Preferred Education & Experience

• 10+ years of welding experience within the aerospace industry.
• Experience welding steel, aluminum, and/or Invar 36.
• MIG and TIG welding experience required.
• Experience with overhead crane and hi-lo.
• Ability to read and understand blueprints.
• Knowledge of geometric tolerances desired.
