TRAUMA REGISTRAR

The primary responsibilities of the Trauma Registrar Tier I are data collection, data entry, and reporting of the data in the trauma registry. This position demonstrates accuracy and confidentiality in the handling of all trauma registry related matters. A Trauma Registrar Tier I supports the Trauma Program by maintaining the trauma registry and by using clinical and financial databases tool to identify and analyze opportunities for improvement. The registrar provides clinical and financial data to the trauma division focusing on performance improvement, with the goal of improving patient care and the financial viability of the program.

M aintains a comprehensive listing of Pediatric and Adult trauma patients by careful review of the Emergency Department admissions logs and Trauma Patient Report.

E nsures accuracy of the Trauma Registry data by abstracting the patient’s chart for trauma registry data points in a timely manner, assigning codes for diagnoses and procedures pertinent to the patient’s visit by utilizing the ICD-10 CM classification system, entering accurately into computer trauma patient data, ensuring the maintenance of the trauma registry database through frequent data backup, and collecting additional data as requested by the Trauma Medical Director and Manager.

M aintains documentation and accurate records of the trauma registry activity by conducting data cleaning and data validation.

A ssists in trauma service activities including assisting and preparing monthly and quarterly reports.

P articipates in professional development to assure skills and knowledge of trauma data information.

D emonstrates effective communication methods and skills, using lines of authority appropriately by formulating and using effective working relationships with all department staff, patients, families, and others, by maintaining confidentiality with all information in the appropriate manner, and establishing and maintaining continued communication between staff via written and verbal means.

DUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

A ssociate degree in health-related field required. Bachelor’s Degree in health-related field preferred.

L PN, RN, or Paramedic licensed with the State of Michigan preferred.

I CD-10, AIS, and Trauma Registry course required within one year of hire or transfer.

T rauma Registrar Certification preferred.

T rauma Registry experience.

C omputer proficiency in Microsoft Office, EXCEL, ICD-10, CPT, DRG, AIS and ISS coding.

K nowledge and proficiency in medical and hospital terminology, anatomy, pathophysiology, and pharmacology required.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

W orking knowledge of database design, interfacing between EPIC and trauma registry.

V erbal and written communication skills.

C omputer software program for data handling.

P roficiency in data entry.
