Medical Director of Orthopedic Residency Program (Bingham Farms)
Reporting to the Designated Institutional Officer (DIO), in collaboration with the Associate DIO (ADIO) and the Medical Director of the Orthopedic Service Line for Henry Ford Health, the Program Director (PD) of a Graduate Medical Education (GME) program is responsible for leading the program in accordance with its mission and ensuring the program is compliant with the specialty-specific requirements outlined by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and all Henry Ford Health Medical Education policies and procedures. The PD has responsibility, authority, and accountability for: administration and operations; teaching and scholarly activity; resident recruitment and selection; evaluation and promotion of trainees; disciplinary action; supervision of trainees; and trainee education in the context of patient care. It is expected that the Program Director will be engaged in clinical and administrative duties at the residencys primary training site.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Residency Program Development and Administration The program director is responsible for development and operation of the ACGME-accredited residency/fellowship program that maintains accreditation while providing a high-quality educational environment for house officers.
- Program Management and Accreditation Collaborate with DIO, ADIO, GME Committee, GME staff, and hospital departments to ensure the program meets all ACGME requirements. Communicate with ACGME, respond to requests, and operate in accordance with Henry Ford Health policies. Maintain accurate records and oversee activities to ensure quality across all participating sites.
- Curriculum and Evaluation Develop the curriculum per ACGME standards and ensure learning objectives are achieved through clinical responsibilities, teaching, and didactics.
- Faculty Select and approve qualified faculty, oversee their performance, and promote faculty development and wellbeing.
- Learning Environment Monitor clinical assignments, promote house officer wellbeing, and ensure participation in safety and quality activities.
- House Officer Recruitment and Selection Establish criteria and processes for recruitment that comply with institutional policies and ACGME standards.
- Supervision Monitor supervision levels, work hours, and adjust schedules to ensure safety and wellness.
- House Officer Assessment Oversee evaluations, provide feedback, and manage remediation as needed.
- Management of Program Resources Ensure adequate resources are available for training.
- Program Evaluation and Improvement Conduct periodic evaluations and implement improvements based on feedback and surveys.
- Wellness Monitor and promote the physical and mental health of house officers and faculty.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Proven administrative skills in GME, ability to manage complex issues, excellent teaching and communication skills.
Minimum Education: Graduate of ACGME-accredited or AOA-approved residency.
Minimum Experience: At least three years experience as active faculty in an accredited residency, involved in administration and education.
Certification/Licensure: Current certification in the specialty by the American Board of Medical Specialties or the American Osteopathic Association. Valid State of Michigan Medical License.
