Paralegal

Description

The main function of a paralegal is to assist lawyers by researching legal precedent investigating facts or preparing legal documents. A typical paralegal is responsible for conducting research to support a legal proceeding formulate a defense or to initiate legal action.

Responsibilities

• Prepare correspondence and legal papers such as summonses complaints motions responses and subpoenas under the supervision of an attorney or a paralegal.
• Review legal journals and assist with legal research.
• May assist new lawyers how to prepare documents for submission to the courts.
• Assist attorneys in collecting information such as employment medical and other records.
• Attend legal meetings such as client interviews hearings or depositions and take notes.
• Organize and maintain law libraries documents and case files.
• Prepare and process legal documents and papers such as summonses subpoenas complaints appeals motions and pretrial agreements.
• Skills & Qualifications
• Verbal and written communication skills attention to detail customer service and interpersonal skills.
• Basic ability to work independently and manage ones time.
• Basic knowledge of laws legal codes court procedures precedents government regulations and the democratic political process.
• Previous experience with computer applications such as Microsoft Word PowerPoint and Excel.
• Associate's degree in paralegal studies or equivalent training required.
• 0-2 years experience required.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Detroit, MI.

Pay And Benefits

The pay range for this position is $27.00 - $28.00/hr.
